Phonearl Good start, but then it gets ruined

Juana what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.

nzpedals A great movie needs the writer, director and actors all to be very, very good. Wise Girls has all three.Acting is much more than just saying the words in the script. There is tone, there is timing, and sometimes a silence can say more than a whole lot of words. Great actors can show in their facial expression just the emotion and meaning that fits the scene perfectly. All, yes all these actors do this all through the movie. Of course, the actors need a great writer and director to get the best out of themselves. Here they have all met, and delivered. The story is straightforward and easy to follow, there are elements that we see connect to give meaning to what is happening now and what is about to happen. The characters are well defined, the events are realistic, and gripping. It was good at the start, and I kept worrying that it would get disappointing, but that never happened, it kept getting better and better. Three beautiful young women are waitresses is an up-market restaurant where the owners are involved in some shady but unspecified side businesses. The women, each with secrets which we eventually learn about, are dragged into events and really need to get themselves clear. They combine, they support, they do what needs to be done.At one point, Meg ( Mira Sorvino) who normally speaks so sweetly - like the girl next door, but in this moment of stress, her voice changes, and sounds so menacing. Brilliant, you'll know when you hear it. The grandmother, with perhaps dementia just sits there, says only a few words, but she too is brilliant and her inclusion adds so much to the reality of Meg's situation both in the first scene, and the last. Brilliant writing.

willyboy_mcs-slave wisegirls is the simplest movie i have ever seen. the setting, and even the characters. but that's only when i do not engage into a deep analysis of the movie. for as i tried to indulge myself into it, i realized that it is more than what it seemed to me at first. For you see, i realized that its simplicity is actually what made it such a exciting movie for me. I said it's exciting because the turn of events towards the end is so "seemingly-towards-a-sad-ending" that i got really overwhelmed when i saw Meg joined Raychel and the other for their birthday-re-birthday-pack. You know, that moment, i felt like i was Raychel. aside from that, i really loved Mariah Carey's acting in this movie. for a figure like her whose talent is on singing (she's got the most powerful voice of all!), i would say that she portrayed her role in a rather "natural way" as what is expected of Raychel. i loved mariah the most! Mira did her acting as if she personally underwent such fate. Melora really amazed me by her acting specially when she revealed herself to meg. to the cast and crew of wisegirls, two thumbs up!

MCcantante327 Wisegirls was such an awesome movie!! I love Mariah and although her acting can never compare to her singing, she was amazing in this movie, especially when compared to her acting in Glitter. Hopefully Mariah will act this good or better in the next movie she films, which should be Sweet Science. I loved the movie because it had a lot of action and suspense. Anybody who likes suspense, drama and action should see this movie. I showed this movie to one of my friends and she loved it. I asked her about Mariah, since I'm a huge fan, and she said that she was really good in the movie. She went out the next day, rented the movie and showed it to her parents because she thought it was that awesome. Anybody who thinks Mariah can't act should see this movie.

boude Mira Sorvino is wonderful as usual but the movie itself is an interesting environment for Mariah Carey the actress. Mariah owns the part of Raychel. She has excellent stage presence and great character dynamics. Carey was wonderful to watch. I'm looking forward to seeing her in an appropriate role again.Carey got a bad rap with Glitter. It was a terrible movie but it would have been terrible no matter who played the part of Billie Frank.If you are looking for an alternative to a night of the Sopranos give Wisegirls a view.
