Synopsis

Deep in the Alaskan wilderness lives a newly discovered family who was born and raised wild. Billy Brown, his wife Ami and their seven grown children – 5 boys and 2 girls – are so far removed from civilization that they often go six to nine months of the year without seeing an outsider. They’ve developed their own accent and dialect, refer to themselves as a "wolf pack," and at night, all nine sleep together in a one-room cabin. Simply put, they are unlike any other family in America. Recently, according to the Browns, the cabin where they lived for years was seized and burned to the ground for being in the wrong location on public land.

Reviews

Beystiman It's fun, it's light, [but] it has a hard time when its tries to get heavy.
Livestonth I am only giving this movie a 1 for the great cast, though I can't imagine what any of them were thinking. This movie was horrible
Catangro After playing with our expectations, this turns out to be a very different sort of film.
Lollivan It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.
tvaliere At the start of the in 2014 I found it interesting because they said they only had 5k to their name. Once I read a little about The Brown's I find them a fraud. I cannot believe discovery still has their shows on. What a bunch of fakes. They act like they are so poor but each episode they have more stuff. Boats, ropes, chainsaws, nails, wood, guns and everything else they have costs. Most of the episodes show what a bunch of clowns they really are. Noah proclaims he is a scientist, Bam the strong quiet logical one, Matt the oldest and dumbest, Bear the tree climbing monkey, Gabe the muscle man that never wears a jacket in 30 degree temps, and the rest run around like the three stooges giving the real Alaskans and bad name. I guess anyone would be able to make it if they gave you $50,000 an episode. I am totally outraged and will never watch it again after learning about them. I want discovery to do a show on my life. at least it would be real.
rodneyc-54096 Season 1 and 2 started off to be good haven't seen it for a while and now I have just started watching new season. now out of nowhere they have running water, electricity, gadgets Galore, full gas cutting sets and the girl's where more makeup then a model. I don't know whether they are stealing the stuff or renting the girls out but the last time I watched none of them had an income. Obviously they ain't doing it too tough. there cabin looks better than my beach house And I have a high paying job. I don't know whether I can finish watching the new season as it just seems like it's getting very fake. In my opinion it won't be long until they magically get a tractor to build some kind of farm.
bweigel-77450 This is so stupid. I thought it was great till they allowed the bears to break into the cabin. Putting those boards on the windwows was a joke and anyone familiar with bears would knolls that. First you would make it solid and not with gaps in the boards. Second you would lay a platform of nails protruding up form boards in front of the windows along with nails protruding from the boards on the windows. This is common knowledge among people living in the wilderness. Some of the foolish mistakes they make are just basik. How stupid do they think we are. The other thing is if they can afford gas for the ship they can afford a cell phone. Communication is second nature. It just makes no sense. There are a lot of neat things they do but the old man is way over dramadical. He way over does it. Be real. If I ran across Bear i would have committed him a long time ago. The only one that is realistic is Bam. Keeping bears out of the compound would be a lot easier than they make it out to be. Alaskins have been doing it for centuries. This makes them out to be some kind of super heroes and wow are they not. I would move into their environment any day and make it just mine. This show is interesting but don't over dramatize it . Make it real. I admire the ingenuity of the family in a lot of ways but the sickening dramatics is stupid.
PartialMovieViewer Agreeably, each person will have their differing opinions, especially about (un-)reality TV. I really do enjoy the program but I have to take it for what it is. I am not an Alaskan, and neither are these folks in the show. I kind of wish someone would produce a similar program as a counter-balance. I fully support someone trying something new...especially if the economy is so bad, employment tanks for one and all. With that being said, if this program gets cancelled tomorrow, I really won't miss it. Now about "Reality TV?" Many may swallow the premise this is the 'true' saga of a group of rough and tough Alaskan 'Bush(?)' people…and devour it hook-line-and sinker. Rough and tough – yes. Real people – yes. True story - really? Ever hear of staging? Believe what you wish…if gullibility is your bag I do have a bridge I can sell you. I cannot believe that some reviewers complain about the lack of local government oversight. Note: Please – stay in the city. This is what is known as freedom, and I do support those who pursue it. Escaping that precious 'Nanny State' is a dream for many and apparently a sin for others. Those who see this as awful, seem to think people grasping for individuality should be punished...why? And for those habitual whiners, you can always cover your eyes, turn off the stupid TV…and never, ever go to Alaska. I do enjoy this show, but it is what it is. For the most part, the writing is non-existent (hence – that hard-to-understand word "reality"); situations are contrived (really? I mean, really? It's a show, which means it needs to meet a bottom-line, or get cancelled - so get over it); they don't talk like them-thar-danged-well-spoken city-dwellers (again – stay in the city), and the 'stars?' have a rotten boat that has dry rot and it might sink…so what, ever hear of culling the herd? And this action needs to be 'professionally (?)' inspected by some government person (are you kidding me? If you want to do whatever the government wants you to do…watch PBS – but don't mock a person's wish for individuality.) This show always has something going. As offensive as it is for some…I just don't see or hear anything upsetting. It is a good tale of struggle and overcoming hardships (and it may provide those more arrogant a venue to mock a differing dialect – immense hubris does not shield ignorance.) Again, this is not for everyone…but I like it
