The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful

Each character in this movie — down to the smallest one — is an individual rather than a type, prone to spontaneous changes of mood and sometimes amusing outbursts of pettiness or ill humor.

There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes

It's simply great fun, a winsome film and an occasionally over-the-top luxury fantasy that never flags.

I can't wait for season 2. The acting is awesome. The storyline and music are also really good.

This is undoubtedly one of the best TV you'll come across.
The story, acting, characters, music, gorgeous cinematography, editing, etc is beyond most things ever seen on TV. Clearly a lot of reviewers agree and I won't waste time on that.
My only grouse is the direction of the finale of the second season. It is very good but completely out of tune with a superb second season. The editing is odd,the sketches include some scenes which stretch your belief, when the best part of Babylon was that most of the story looks and feels believable and hence very involving. No one who likes Transformers is watching this and the need to make characters magically appear somewhere with no logic was not needed.
But congratulations and thank you for providing an outstanding TV series.

What to sayTo start positiveLots of nifty production settings. This is entertaining - lots of eye candy. But eye candy can't last forever. I gave up after 8 episodes. If the intention of the series was to totally confuse the viewer with the plot - it definitely worked on me. There is a constant stream of riddles within a very dubious narrative.Scenes shift abruptly with no continuity. There is no lingering or dwelling on anyone within a scene. There is a perpetual movement with no sense of contemplation on the myriad characters that keep appearing. In fact I was not engaged or pulled in by any of the characters. Liv Lisa Fries was irritating.I really felt like I was watching a comic book or graphic arts production with little depth. There is swirling barrage of images and action shots that nullified me. I also felt that this was very elongated. Could all this have been condensed into a few episodes?I have watched some very good series over the years that have gone on for a few seasons. Babylon doesn't measure up.

An antidote for the banal violence written into American crime procedural and the like. BB's production values are stratospheric. The Weimar days in Berlin are captured with unerring authenticity. The acting is of the highest order. The script brims with suspense. I could go on... but in sum this is must-see picture making... outstanding.
