DipitySkillful
an ambitious but ultimately ineffective debut endeavor.

Strong acting helps the film overcome an uncertain premise and create characters that hold our attention absolutely.
Freeman
This film is so real. It treats its characters with so much care and sensitivity.

All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.

The secret project of creating a super-soldier goes wrong and, in order to cover up the whole thing, all volunteers who have been exposed to serum are killed. One manages to get away and lives in hiding until he saves the life of a young policewoman and falls in love with her. Then, of course, all possible complications begin. I know, it sounds sleasy, but the series is really well done. It combines elements of crime series with romance, thriller and a bit of horror. Jay Ryan is good in the role of the "beast", Kristin Kreuk is not particularly good actress, but she is beautiful enough for male audience to forgive her shortcomings in the performance, and Nina Lisandrello as her partner and Austin Basis as a computer magician and "beast's" best friend are great. The story is complicated and interesting, directing and effects are good and the series is very addictive. It has four seasons and it's finished, not canceled, so if you decide to watch, you will finish it pretty quickly and without waiting for new episodes or disappointments that the story has remained unresolved. Recommendation.7,5/10

I'm a huge fan of the original Beauty and the Beast TV series by Koslow; a die-hard fan with collectibles. I love that series and had my misgivings watching this one since the first one was so good until Linda Hamilton left the show and that killed it. Therefore, I thought I wouldn't like this series but after watching the pilot I found I was terribly wrong. I fell in love with all the characters and the story unfolded. Luckily this one lasted four seasons.I read the critic reviews and thought they were silly and jaded sounding. There is nothing wrong with the acting in the series. It's spot on for the parts they are playing. I didn't think there was anything predictable other than the underlying fact there would be a love story underneath all of it between Catherine and Vincent. That's the story. How scary the beast appeared and the reaction of the audience isn't relevant. There will always be those negative people that will put things down. They didn't show close ups at first. He was pretty scary when they finally did. I thought the way Vincent changed into a beast and why was very clever. They left the higher fantasy idea for something that made more sense in modern times; a very creative idea.Since Ryan is from New Zealand he did a good job with his accent. I was amazed when I found out he was from that country. He is outstandingly good looking so it plays well with the change into an animal-like monster. The show is not as poetic or uplifting like the other one but it is still filled with the romance and just the right amount of action. I didn't think Catherine's partner had any better acting than anyone else on the show. She was all right but no more appealing than any other cast member. They all did a great job. Too bad they didn't run this show longer but the CW is notorious for canceling good shows. I'm not surprised and usually don't invest much time in their shows knowing they will be cancelled sooner rather than later. This is a tremendously entertaining show and moves slowly in the first few episodes to set up the storyline which is what the first series did as well. After all, she wouldn't have fallen into his arms at first sight. I'm sure anyone who watches this series will like it and if not, it was a matter of taste and not the quality of the show.

I wrote this in scattered waffling prose I think but...I have only been watching this show for a little over a month.I heard it was being canceled and it's quietly proved to be a moment in my life which I won't forget easily. Jay Ryan is quite frankly an exceptional actor. His complete acting range is rare & truly breathtaking. In Beauty & the Beast Jay Ryan's dramatic skill flew high into the range of multi-award winning performances I've seen to date. His skill within dramatic moments in this character of Vincent Keller were laced with a quiet serenity and at times horror of his own actions. It's his skill in acting that makes this character believable and highly emotional. Never have I seen an actor do this with such deftness and ease of delivery... Comedic turns were whimsical, boyishly sweet, textured with self delight, deprecating and affectionate. A nuanced vulnerability made me want to reach into the screen to be friends. He has on screen mesmerizing charm and masculinity that is beguiling.Ryan didn't betray the viewers trust for an instant on comedic and dramatic delivery and in doing that it takes infinite skill and regard for his audience. It was beyond a privilege to watch him. His performances led me on a personal journey with him, stealing the show and making it his. I'll be following his acting career after watching this series. The production was quick paced and believable. The ensemble of actors were excellent. One word to describe this series with Jay Ryan in it is breathtaking. This show redefines TV series drama in many ways but Jay Ryan's performance in the lead male role of Vincent Keller, the beast, kept me riveted to the screen. I'll be watching the entire 4 series in re-run till the DVD's wear out or iTunes fades away into binary 0+1. My rating: 10/10

I love the Disney movie, have never seen the Linda Hamilton/Ron Perlman series but was curious about this version. This was actually really hard for me to watch. I watched 6 episodes and then it was 6 days before I turned it back on, literally forcing myself to watch it.A show like this is most definitely one that would probably be better as a 12-episode season instead off 22. It felt like it went on forever. For me, what I dislike most about the show is Kristen Kruek! I didn't like her in Smallville and I don't like her in this. Her character is supposed to be a detective? HA! In no way was she convincing as a detective or apparently a near 30 year old!The cast is full of young 20-something actors, including everyone in the police precinct, with one or two older characters floating away in the background.I like the characters of Vincent Keller (Jay Ryan), the Beast (although it looks like he just walked off the Teen Wolf set!), and his best friend, J.T (Austin Basis), who were pretty much the only reason I turned it back on.The story gets a bit repetitive throughout the season. Will they get together? Won't they? There's a cure? There's no cure? Which got boring
fast! For detectives, they sure do make a lot of rookie and idiotic mistakes like looking for evidence without gloves on, not being very conspicuous about what they are talking about and plenty of others.I won't be watching anything more of this show.
