Reviews

Lucybespro It is a performances centric movie
StyleSk8r At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.
Aneesa Wardle The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
Guillelmina The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
Tweekums When he was younger Ryouta was unable to save the life of his friend Kuroneko; then one day he meets Neko Kuroha; a girl who looks just like Kuroneko. She has no knowledge of who he is though. It soon emerges that Neko is no ordinary girl; she has certain magical powers and she isn't the only one. A group of such girls have escaped from a local laboratory and are being hunted; Ryouta decides to help them. They can't just run away though as they must take a special pill every day or they will die and they only have a limited supply. If they are to survive they must either find where more pills are stored or find a way to make more. Over the course of the series we see just how much danger they are in as those responsible for their creation hunt then down with other witches… not everybody will survive.Coming from Studio Arms it is hard not to expect something similar to the infamous 'Elfen Lied' as both feature girls with dangerous powers who have fled a sinister laboratory; it turns out this is quite different though. There is some bloody violence but it is nowhere near as gory or as frequent here and it isn't full of gratuitous nudity. There may be more gore when it makes it to DVD as some of the deaths appeared to be hidden by large amounts of 'censor steam' on the TV version. The story was enjoyable and the main characters were likable; even some of the apparently bad characters weren't entirely unsympathetic. The series looked good with decent character designs and backgrounds and the animation was good enough. Overall this was an enjoyable series which wasn't as dark as I expected but managed to keep me keen to watch each successive episode. These comments are based on watching the series in Japanese with English subtitles.
joelherro I liked this show, but it could have been so much better. It starts with Ryouta Murakami, a high school student who misses his long lost (girl) friend who he thought died in a freak accident when they were kids. Then one day a girl who looks just like his old friend, and even has a similar name, transfers to his class. He confronts her and she says she isn't his old friend, but he finds out she is a witch. He then goes on to meet other friends of hers who are witches too. They are being hunted down and murdered by the secret organisation that made them witches and Murakami helps them escape. This show is kind of dark, with plenty of grisly deaths (most of which were censored in the copy I saw), but it also has some light-hearted moments, either to keep it from being too serious or just for the sake of being weird (is there such a thing as too weird in anime?). I personally would have preferred it to have taken the serious route, but it still works this way as the light-hearted stuff was mostly ecchi anyway, which isn't so bad. The story line was interesting and the characters were well developed (for only a 13 episode show) and the animation was great. So overall, I say, enjoy!
