Michelle Ridley The movie is wonderful and true, an act of love in all its contradictions and complexity
Diane Feels like it's trying to be Brothers and Sisters. And failing. For instance, there's a family with 5 kids for a start. One a lawyer, one in Afghanistan. One with two kids. It goes on... The guy who plays the dad was even in Brothers and Sisters and that was years before this series. The main difference though is that the characters in Brothers and Sisters were likeable. These aren't. You like the main girl. And her kids, her sisters to an extent, and her Dad. But the gran has the most annoying accent ever and constantly talks about religion. The little brother acts like he's a teenager constantly and is just annoying with his childish pranks while pretending to be a lawyer. They don't feel like a family at all. There's one scene around a camp fire where they seem connected. Other than that, not at all. It doesn't feel like they know each other, never mind grew up together. The best thing about this so far is Jesse metcalfe's character because you feel like you connect with him. He's fun and smiles a lot. The others don't. I don't think I've seen many of them laugh at all. It's very slow and usually, you have to take the bad with the good. But this is all bad. It's too dramatised. Family have ups and downs, not just downs. There has to be a balance for it to be a good show. And this unfortunately misses the mark. My advice... watch Brothers and Sisters instead. It's a million times better!
rwl-95430 I really wanted to like this show. I am a big Hallmark fan. I started watching because of Meghan Ory after seeing her in the Hallmark movie Dashing Through the Snow. For me the show has continued to get worse. I also agree with a previous post that Diane Ladd's accent is so bad it is annoying. The story lines are so fractured it is hard to keep up with what is going on. Seems like the show is more about Treat Williams than Meghan Ory and Jesse Metcalf. I was somewhat surprised that the show got renewed and really don't expect it to survive another year. I guess Hallmark has so much invested in the series it can't afford to cancel it after one year. I see it going the way of Cedar Cove. Another series that started out OK and got worse as it went along. I think the actors do a good job, I blame the writers/producers/directors for scattering the story lines around to the point they get lost.
Kal For Hallmark this is a pretty show and beautifully shot on Vancouver Island as well as Vancouver. The pace is slow and though has a 'Brothers & Sisters' feel, it falls short in a few areas. Lack of diversity being the obvious one. The acting is OK, it is difficult to care for any of the characters and that sense of mystery in each character is a good ploy. Sadly Cheryl Ladd's 'Irish' accent is distracting. Overall its alright and predictable.
jnaughton-84047 I like the show. It had a lot of predictable moments but I love the setting, the family support the characters show to each other and all around warmth and sweet sentiment. Just what I need after a long day and when I want to curl up and watch a show that is enjoyable and light. I love Treat Williams he is such a joy to watch and the sisters have good chemistry. The lead actress does a good job keeping the show going and I enjoyed her work on Once Upon A Time. As for some drawbacks,it has a bit too much gloss to it and typical scenarios you would find on hallmark but I think the kinks could be worked out and hopefully the writers will go a little deeper with the drama and characters. i look forward to more episodes.
