Excellent but underrated film

I cannot think of one single thing that I would change about this film. The acting is incomparable, the directing deft, and the writing poignantly brilliant.

This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.

Well written, well acted high quality drama from the BBC. It is currently being shown on BBC 3 digital in two hour episodes on Sunday nights. I am sure that it will eventually be shown on BBC 1.The series is set in a grim, nameless Lancashire town and has as its focus two policemen who take the law into their own hands when they think that a suspected paedophile murderer may get away with his crime. The story follows the aftermath of their actions and much of it revolves around their home / social relationships. The programme rattles along at a good pace and it is easy to get involved with the characters, even if some of them are particularly unlikeable. In the second installment, an unconnected storyline involving a kidnap and a rape appears and I felt that the series had lost its way a bit (I suspect this was padding to make the storyline spin out.)This aside, the overall package is enjoyable and involving, showing that the BBC remains a world leader in producing classy drama.
