Truly Dreadful Film

Good start, but then it gets ruined

The film may be flawed, but its message is not.

It's a good bad... and worth a popcorn matinée. While it's easy to lament what could have been...

Sublime, just sublime. How else to equate something you wish would go on & on but ironically is no more. Therein lies the genius of Freaks & Geeks, Paul Feig's foray into adolescence. Like many a cult that was gone too soon, Freaks & Geeks hits all the right notes as it charts a bunch of high schoolers navigation of life known in the American high school. Evoking the wisdom of peak John Hughes & the 'it all matters' of Cameron Crowe, Freaks & Geeks was too good to last but at least we have 18 beautiful, revelatory hours to fall back on.

I liked the TV shows, I think some things were just happening too fast. I would enjoy it if a second season would come out for this show. I think there was a lot of good acting in it.

This is an amazing TV show. I would say it is one of the most realistic portrayal of high school life that I have ever seen. My high school time was around the same when this show aired and I could connect my memories to many things that happened on the show. Most of the actors were not known back then but now watching it is like watching a show full of comedy stars. Which is a good thing because it makes me happy they got the success they deserved. All characters bring something to the show. Most of them aren't too deep, but this is because only a season passed. If it went on longer we sure would see more development. There is no character that I disliked. Parents, teachers, freaks, geeks, popular kids they all have humanity in them.Every episode keeps one watching and being interested in what happens and triggers a lot of feelings. Happy and sad ones. So how come it was cancelled? I think so far it is the biggest loss on TV that this show never went past the first season.

I have never been a fan of college series, notably with comedy elements, as they depict events with exaggerated polarity, yet dealing with "innocent" child and teen topics only. All "decent" minors do not smoke and drink, their interest in opposite gender is limited to hugs and kisses, etc., thus spreading the adults' view of how it should be, but moving too far away from reality.Freaks and Geeks is an interesting mix of release and period - the series was made in 1999-2000, but the period depicted was ca 20 years earlier, i.e. almost my teen years. That is why (plus after reading the praise) I decided to "deal with it" - and became pleasantly surprised from the 1st episode. Realistic/appropriate topics and characters, good sense of era, fine background music, great performances - both teens and adults... The contrasts and overstatements were present (well, it is still a comedy-drama), but not disturbing, the so-called cuteness was included in all groups, and main attention was not focused on cheerleaders and sportsmen, as in Saved by the Bell, for example.Pity that the current world has become more and more regulated, with lots of political correctness, avoiding/hiding sensitive issues, demonizing sexuality and related stuff, etc. If a late teen delivers any porn for younger teens would bring about severe consequences to both parties if revealed... Although it has never been that people enter the adult world after becoming 18.
