Reviews

Curapedi I cannot think of one single thing that I would change about this film. The acting is incomparable, the directing deft, and the writing poignantly brilliant.
Motompa Go in cold, and you're likely to emerge with your blood boiling. This has to be seen to be believed.
Roy Hart If you're interested in the topic at hand, you should just watch it and judge yourself because the reviews have gone very biased by people that didn't even watch it and just hate (or love) the creator. I liked it, it was well written, narrated, and directed and it was about a topic that interests me.
Haven Kaycee It is encouraging that the film ends so strongly.Otherwise, it wouldn't have been a particularly memorable film
arielnicole-30965 I absolutely loved this show, even though it's one season, still watch it. I'm hoping another network will pick it up and continue with it. They could really go somewhere with this.
tmcaleer-00129 It was difficult to believe no one picked up and continued to run this great series highlighting what WAS when there are so many absolutely mindless inane series that drone on and mentally strip mine our American brains.Given additional time, the writers might have also had opportunity to magnified many OTHER changes that occurred a mere few years prior to 1969. During THOSE times there were so many inequities which in today's light might be considered third world oppression of half the population. This series had me reflecting back to a few things from that era that immediately come to light ...mandatory high school curriculum: all girls were required to take home economics, sewing, office procedures and typing classes with the assumption we would never go on to college even though we were pursuing college prep classes.women required permission from their husband to apply/obtain a credit card or desiring a separate bank account.working women were unable to obtain a loan without their husband's permission or, if single, it necessitated securing a co-signer. If a co-signer was secured, the interest rates women paid were nearly double that of their male counterpart.to obtain birth control, women were required to be married AND have their husband's permission.women lost their job if it was discovered they were pregnant, working women hid their pregnancies with girdles until they began to "show".all men were in management with "his girl" sitting outside his office.advances/passes, touching/grabbing were never reported due to fear of job loss and labeling as a trouble maker.outspoken women were commonly and publicly criticized, jeered and labeled when speaking out against the inequity or if they expressed any personal thought or self-authority.Bizarre right? .... well, this was really not all that long ago ...
kabuav So I just realized I have access to Amazon Prime here in France and I was so excited to find this show! I love the characters, the attention to detail and like others have mentioned, as a women, appreciating how much opportunity we do have now thanks to women who were truly brave. That being said, I think the fact that this show was canceled by a man, not involving women in the process, demonstrates exactly how much further we have yet to go! I am tempted to say, let's us women, who frankly probably make up well over half of Amazon's clients, take a stand and force them to bring it back. Not sure I can be that strong to give up my Amazon Prime addiction (especially working full time with 2 kids under the age of 3 at home) but the women depicted in this show did more than that, risking their careers and challenging social norms. There is a great article in the Atlantic about the ramifications of the male dominated entertainment industry that goes far beyond entertainment. It just frankly stinks that women have to pretty much do everything now, and contribute so much not only to the economy, to art, to culture, and to their families and we cannot even get a second season of a great show about our triumphs as a group. Shame on you, Amazon. I thought we were cool.
lreego We want to see many more seasons! This show has sharp writing, realistic characters, outstanding acting and fabulous sets and apparel with perfect period music showcasing the late 60's. A show like this highlights how life was for many women in the 60's and how hard women fought for simple rights and equality (and are still fighting). The show also touches on how women began to gain self-identity and begin to understand their own sexuality. Furthermore, I appreciate that the men are complicated and not all anti-women. THe inclusion of Nora Ephron is poignant knowing all she did in her career. Plus I love how the show doesn't pick a side...it seems to value all women's choices. A must watch!
