Matcollis This Movie Can Only Be Described With One Word.
Micransix Crappy film
Dynamixor The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.
Kimball Exactly the movie you think it is, but not the movie you want it to be.
Joseph Like so many suspense shows that continue too long, this show falls back on every tired cliché you can imagine. The will-they/wont-they isn't the worst of them, but of course it has that. It also has the godawful plot driving clichés of misunderstanding between main characters over partial information; the main characters totally breaking character in order to drive conflict; the bad guy duping people into betraying their friends; the people keeping secrets that would save others for no reason; and my favorite: ALMOST saving the day but at the last second changing their mind in order to screw everything up (this of course happens many times). This could have been a great show but instead of using the main plot to drive it, used corny pathetic unimaginative writing that insults the viewers.
SnoopyStyle FBI agent Audrey Parker (Emily Rose) is sent to Haven, Maine on a case of a prison escapee. She finds help from local cop Nathan Wuornos (Lucas Bryant) and petty criminal smuggler Duke Crocker (Eric Balfour). The town is plagued by strange occurrences. People are cursed by these 'troubles' and she is connected to them in some way.I really like the show, the mystery and the three leads. I like the actors and their love triangle. I actually like the trouble-of-the-week aspect to those early show. The mystery seems intriguing and it's also the show's Achilles' heel. At some point, the show has to start explaining the origins of the 'troubles'. It's too convoluted. I respect the difficulties of trying to keep viewer interest while constructing a viable story. In the end, it doesn't quite make it but it was fun while it lasted.
cecynor If you for some reason, haven't watch the last couple of episodes of HAVEN, STOP READING NOW! It's been an amazing journey which lasted 5 years, yes I know it seems incredible but this roller coaster of emotions started on 2010 and now in the year 2015 the journey ends. Emily (Audrey), Lucas (Nathan), Eric (Duke), Adam (Dwight), Emma (Jennifer), Laura (Charlotte) and William (Croatoan) as everyone else involved in the story were amazing (the cast and crew... writers, producers, fx department, makeup, etc) I got in love with Haven so much that I even stopped reading the book so I would not find spoilers or points of comparison between them. During this time, we - the fandom - fought over who was the hero and who was better for Audrey, if Nathan or Duke, about who and how would end the troubles... We fell in love with all the characters and followed their story as if it was a part of our lives... We witnessed their conquests and their falls, we cried with them and laugh as well, we watched them rise again and again. We watched them fight with each other and for each other... We watch Audrey go into ¨the barn¨ to end the troubles for 27 years over and over and surface as someone else who we learned to love (Sarah, Lucy, even Mara) ... And that is why (SPOILER ALERT) I AM NOT HAPPY with the end.. I expected something different, I expected the happy ending that never came. I waited to watch Haven Finale and I'M NOT HAPPY with the simplistic and unhappy end! It was almost logical that Dave and Vince would make the choice of sacrifice themselves for Haven (which is consistent with the characters' history).. But apart from that everything else felt VERY WRONG: Dwight was given a consolation prize for losing the love of his life (the one we got to know, to hate and then to love... just to watch her go into oblivion) and the trio got disbanded... It feels like Nathan ended up with ¨a copy of Audrey¨ because she walked into the barn again, to surface as someone else (again) this time with baby James?.. How does Nathan's baby ¨James¨ fit into this story if this version of Audrey never met Nathan before? Because the Sarah who gave birth to James is from the '50s... And Duke?... Was THAT Duke's reward for his sacrify?.. DEATH? I feel this end does not match the amazing complex story I followed for 5 years and neither us (the fans) nor the characters deserve the fast, simplistic unhappy end we were given...I enjoyed the story I just don't like the way they wrapped it up.
Vincent Black This series is pretty typical work of the Syfy network. The premise is based on a small town in Maine called Haven, where some people get supernatural powers for unknown reasons. After a while you get the feeling you are watching some version of X-Men and Heroes mixed with Buffy the Vampire Slayer. You know the show you are viewing is in trouble when they start casting pro-wrestlers in the second season. I continued to watch up to the third season on Netflix but it refused to get better. Saying the show is based on a murder mystery by Stephen King, is like saying, Gilligan's Isle was based on the Titanic. The dialog and plot go nowhere fast. They can't seem to pull off the "I've got a big secret." no matter how hard they try. The series has a lack of suspense. Almost all the problems are solved by talking them out. Very few seem to have ethical issues even when innocent lives have been lost.So if you haven't watched Haven, you are not missing anything life altering or even thought provoking. I watched X-Files, Warehouse 13, and Eureka. This one pales by comparison to those shows. I would call Haven one better than a night time soap opera.
