Absolutely brilliant

While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.

One of the most extraordinary films you will see this year. Take that as you want.

A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.

Some people seem to think that this ruined the original and the makers themselves have been hit by idiotic comments like that. While I wouldn't go so far as to say that this show is really that good, it does better the original in every single aspect. The technical aspects are incomparable and I guess that charm of the original is what was missing but then how old were we when we actually saw the original and how impressionable were we then? The animation is good, OK for 21st century quality, the story lines are passable or average when they stand alone or somewhat better when they tie in together for the bigger plot. The action does suck though and the hitting and punching is quite annoying. He-Man is also disturbingly muscular and unrealistic. But having said all that and given the limitations of the concept itself, I don't see how the developers could have done any better, except for providing better music?

I was a huge fan of the he-man cartoon in the 80s, but being so young i didn't get to see as much as i would've liked. This 21st century version of the Masters of the universe cartoon is a great re-make of the old cartoon and better overall i have to say. The storyline and plot in this cartoon is much better than the original and the action sequences are a lot more explosive and entertaining. Remember the old MOTU cartoon was made in the early 80s and cartoons have come a long way since then, so the animation is advanced better and the characters are much more detailed and better looking. The new cartoon is not as goof ball and childish as the old cartoon and the majority of the characters are seen in more than one episode and get to be involved in the plot and unlike the 80s version this cartoon is not merely a vehicle in which to promote the sale of Mattel toys as it was the case before.I like the fact that all of the old characters from the 80s version that were in like one or two episodes then had an action figure made out of them, do actually appear in a few episodes and have their character developed more than in the original.Villains like Skeletor and Evil-Lyn are more cunning and evil than the goofy roles they had before and I'm glad that this cartoon rarely resorts to the slapstick action that so often spoiled the original. As i said i do think this is a better cartoon overall, but i do like the original version of the He-man character more than this one, he looked more brawnier and had a better voice and i like the old transformation sequence where prince Adam turns into he-man better than the new one. But this cartoon is much better written and its nice to see that effort is put into the story and the dialogue. I enjoy this version of the Masters of the Universe cartoon very much and its great to see it being done the way it shouldve been done in the 80s, but all cartoons were goofy back then anyway, I'm over the moon that its back for a whole new generation of viewers to enjoy, i just hope it sticks around for a few years.

Yeah yeah, another "new" show for Cartoon Network to flaunt, just like Transformers Armada, both are updates of classic 80's shows which are just now becoming popular again because of the trendy retro movement (just like the 70's flashback in the 90's, and the 50's comeback in the 70's, see a pattern yet? I can only imagine what ungodly horrors they'll bring back for 2010 when the 90's become retro trendy. Yeesh! Perhaps MTV's "Real World: the animated series" will hit Cartoon Network eh?)Well anyways back on topic. The animation is new and crisp with some noticible hints of CGI. I like shows that mix CGI and cell animation. Sonic X, Ghost In The Shell:SAC, and Zoids do this and it looks cool. So this is an okay show. If you're 12 years old and don't know that a similar show existed in the 80's.My big problem with the show.. Battle Cat. Why is he so silent? Oh! Thats write, the writers for the "new" show were aiming for a more adolescent audience and they figured that a talking tiger was just to childish and mythical for a cartoon show! And magic, telepathy, transformations, talking bees, birdmen and all those other things aren't? STUPID WRITERS!! *SMAAAACK!*But of course you have to expect atleast one or two screw ups from a re-make. Lets just hope the folks making the new Knight Rider movie don't decide that a talking Trans Am is too childish for an audience.Or else I, and a million other KR fans will be upset.

I used to have a LARGE assortment of He-Man action figures. I even had Castle Greyskull! My dad made me give them away (along with my G.I. Joe's) to some charity of what not. I still hate him for that. Seeing that the series was coming back on Cartoon Network made me remember my childhood television favorites. I still have a few episodes of the original series on video tape, and I even have the He-Man & She-Ra Christmas Special (SPOILER WARNING: ***where Skeletor actually saves the day***). Anyway, the animation is truly superior (in most parts) the original series (I never saw any of the other He-Man series), and the plots are much more involved. I only have a few gripes. One, the transformation sequence for He-Man was a LOT better in the original series. It had more flash, I miss the heavy echo of He-Man's voice, and the music cue was just about as dramatic as a cartoon gets. Don't get me wrong, Joseph LoDuca is great as I LOVE the music for "THE EVIL DEAD" trilogy along with what he's done on the "HERCULES" & "XENA" T.V. series. Also, I think the design for Orko is a bit overdone. I mean, the hat's too big, he doesn't need a feather, and the belt kind of makes his shroud look like a dress.I love the fact that they've explored more of the origins here. Why Skeletor has a skull for a face, where He-Man's powers come from, and so on. Good to see King Randor as a more physical character (as seen in the Pilot episode), and I like that even the background characters have gotten more forefront time. It seems as if they've got a good production team for this show, and I'm so happy with Cartoon Network with "JUSTICE LEAGUE" & "TRANSFORMERS: ARMADA" (even if it is the least of the TF series). Now, all we need is a NEW "THUNDERCATS" series (or, at least, re-runs of the old series). Also, I'm glad with what they've done with the toyline. I haven't bought any of them yet, but it's great that they've re-issued some of the original action figures in a collector's set. It's truly a remarkable idea. Also, the new toys look fantasic! It's all a Grade-A job in all aspects of this revival. Even the live-action "MASTER OF THE UNIVERSE" film was released on DVD with Director's commentary the same year. It's the complete & total package. He-Man & the Masters of the Universe are back in all their glory! I hope it lives on for quite some time.-NJM
