It's not great by any means, but it's a pretty good movie that didn't leave me filled with regret for investing time in it.

There are moments in this movie where the great movie it could've been peek out... They're fleeting, here, but they're worth savoring, and they happen often enough to make it worth your while.

It is encouraging that the film ends so strongly.Otherwise, it wouldn't have been a particularly memorable film

A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.

While this show is constantly compared to Red Dwarf it is not a fair comparison. The other comparison of "The Office, in space" is much closer. I bought the first series DVD because I like Nick Frost and the premise was interesting. The show follows the crew of the HMS Camden Lock in year 2151. It features such British comedy staples such as the aforementioned Nick Frost (as the Space Captain) and Kevin Eldon (as First Officer York). They run into various alien races, usually resulting in hilarious outcomes, such as The Engulfers ("Oooh! Right up its mouth arse!").I will admit that the first couple of episodes didn't have me in hysterics but it got better very quickly. As for series 2, this is where the show became truly comfortable with itself. It is a shame that the BBC has not commissioned a third series as I would love to continue these adventures with such a fantastic crew!

I can still remember the first time I tuned into red Dwarf all those years ago - and thought what on earth is this? But like a lot of really clever and different programs - it quickly grew on me and it's still as funny today no matter how many times I or my kids watch them. The same applies to Hyperdrive. I think it is really clever and funny. The mundanely English subtext and oddball characters are brilliant. Jeffers the rebel who wants so badly to be taken seriously then when he assumes responsibility for the ship, goes completely out of control.York the anal retentive with a military complex - who loves to take control and sets about declaring an "indigo" alert!. Sandstrum as the enhance - a really original bit of SCI FI technology and speaking of which the SGI is really top notch for a comedy series.Seriously Hyperdrive was definitely good enough to justify a third 3rd series. It's just so wonderfully EnglishABC Radio Perth WA

Look, I have now seen ALL 6 episodes, it has not gotten 1 iota funnier. Its awkward and poorly written. I had high hopes for this show. I love Douglas Adams. I love Red Dwarf. I loved Nick Frost in Spaced and Shaun Of The Dead. I love Sci-Fi, I REALLY love Sci-Fi comedy. I hated this show.Don't get me wrong, I really wanted to like it, but its just done so badly. I was even in a sort of denial for a few episodes, but the truth is its boring. I don't care about any of the characters, the jokes were very dull, and the whole thing just fell under the category of "Great idea done badly".I think this is less like Red Dwarf and more like The Office....in space! Not that thats a bad thing, if done well. It isn't. I mean I would much rather see David Brent helming a starship, with Garreth as a second in command with delusions of grandeur (as weird as that concept may be) than watch this show stumble through each episode.Disappointingly forgettable.

The BBC went mad with the effects budget, and there were good ideas, but somehow it didn't all fit together. There were funny moments, some of comedy genius, but they were put together almost like a sketch show. The episodes didn't flow logically through much of a plot, more like a bunch of funny things that happen in space.Kevin Eldon is a funny guy, and I've loved his work since the old Lee and Herring shows he did, but he only really has one character - the insane freak, and he just doesn't fit here. Nobody that bizarre would end up as chief of security on a spaceship. Yes, I know its a comedy, but its a sit-com, and the situation should at least be believable and consistent for it to work.If it returns, and it does deserve another chance, I hope it improves, and decides what it wants to be.
