Clever, believable, and super fun to watch. It totally has replay value.

The storyline feels a little thin and moth-eaten in parts but this sequel is plenty of fun.

Strong acting helps the film overcome an uncertain premise and create characters that hold our attention absolutely.

I am new to the fairly large fan base that exists for this t.v. series which started when I viewed the last show that wrote Tobias Moretti out of the series. From there, we have rented DVD's of the series, but alas, all episodes of every series are not available for rental. Though some of the earlier story lines have been rather weak and there could have been more involvement regarding the dog actor, all this was fortunately corrected along the way, just as we were debating whether or not to continue watching. Now that we have become familiar with the character quirks and are well and truly hooked on the series, only time will tell if we will want to continue watching, as it will definitely feel strange without Moser. As for the subtitles, it would seem beneficial if the subtitling were done with immaculate detail to the true German meaning of the words, as it is somewhat disconcerting to be hearing the German dialect and reading a translation of Aussie slang. I just feel that the translating is so important, it can make or break an episode, and that fans want the German authenticity to come through. As for the theme music, nowhere can I find credit for a person or group, but if you have a legit music sharing program, you can download off the net as we have. Type in the search bar "T.V.Themes.SAT1.ORF1-Kommissar Rex(96). I believe this will get you the theme version you want. We had to try 3 times for the right one. I can't seem to find more info about the dogs who have played Rex through the years. It has been interesting to find out more about the different actors and their bodies of work outside of this series. Great board, lots of very good feedback and information. Thanks from this transplanted Canadian.

A consistently delightful and enchanting viewing experience, though I think the depth of warmth and empathy between Brandtner/Rex falls short of the tone set by Moser/Rex. Compensated a little by the playful moments with Bock. PS: What's with the phone box mysteriously appearing outsider Moser's house in "Dangerous Mission" - never there in previous episodes, and not sighted since! Why, in Brandtner's introductory episode "The New Guy", is the reason for Rex's distress referred to in such oblique tones? Moser's name isn't even uttered. We don't even get to learn what happened to his mentor Max. Despite these irritations, one draws a lot of pleasure from watching the Viennese locations, the well-written stories and the thoroughly charming, intelligent and witty interplay between Inspector Rex and his human crime-fighting colleagues, despite the heartbreak of Moser's demise.

Unfortunately in Australia the series on SBS didn't start with Series l, 2 and 3, when Tobias Moretti played Inspector Richard Moser who was the main character/actor with his Rex. And his long term supporting actors/characters. It started being screened with Alex the second Inspector character, then reverted back to Moser, and recently fans of this programme were treated to a late night 90 minute 'Moser Tod' or Moser's Death. Some what an amazing convoluted form of continuity and annoyance to long time fans. And then there was another inspector and his female assistant that followed on after Alex Brandht, and wasn't too popular, and the series ended. Fans feel a little let down and manipulated!!!!The people who followed Alex Bradnt became rather devalued actually and the series folded. Both Tobias and Gedeon were quite handsome attractive actors, but the last one, was a short bloke, barely 5 ft 5. No disrespect there, but Rex then was not allowed his ham rolls, but treated to chocolate cake? Because a female detective had intervened. This was filmed in Austria, and most fans went out and bought ham and put it in rolls, to remain in the spirit of their idols. Some what a bit like Star Trek rise, fall and rise again in popularity, maybe it will be resurrected one time with or without subtitles and Rex and his police comrades will still enjoy their ham rolls and NOT chocolate cake.(Come on guys!) And I hope they still film it in Vienna. It appears a beautiful city and this series should be great advertisement and promotion for this city.Pat Lightfoot

I'm Austrian but not living there. Whenever I see Rex I become home-sick. I know all the places where the series where shot and the people are real Austrians. Their behavior, their WURSTSEMMEL (this is the bread Rex ant the policemen always eat), their cars,..... it's all sooo real. I wish I could see it in my mother-tongue but so far I wasn't lucky. I've seen it in dutch and Spanish so far and it makes me laugh how they spell the austrian names. I'm glad this series was such a success that I can watch it almost anywhere in the world. Also in the Dominican Republic where I will live in the near future.
