Good story, Not enough for a whole film

A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.

Through painfully honest and emotional moments, the movie becomes irresistibly relatable

Although I watch series and movies constantly, I have never written a reveiw.
After finishing the available episodes of Into the Badlands, I decided that if there is a show that I want to share with as many people as possible, this is certainly it.Having attracted me at first by its use of incredibly well choreographed fighting scenes, Into the badlands immerses you in a world so wonderful and complexe that you will get lost in it.
Character development, as a main pillar of the narrative, makes the story compelling and every single character likeable in their own way (from the ruthless baron Quinn to the angsty teenager MK).
This reimagining of the classic Chinese tale Journey to the West fills each and every one of the needs of TV series enthusiasts and presents to those that have not yet discovered this very important part of our current cultural environment a perfect oportunity to give it a go and enjoy pure storytelling.

Into the Badlands I'm currently starting season three of this ludicrously cheesy but infectious bit of throw away fun.
Critics may mock the overacting and corny storyline but there's something definitely intriguing about this show.
So much so even my better half is hooked and this isn't usually the genre for her go to entertainment.Into the Badlands is a beautifully shot TV show which looks stunning in high definition.
Just let your eyes feast on the poppy fields in season one to know what I'm referring to.The plot is very imaginative if a tad over played, but that's part of the appeal of this show.
Like a Christmas pantomime this show is massively over acted.
Set in a post apocalyptic wasteland a warrior and young boy search for a better life beyond the Badlands. A territory controlled by ruthless barons.
My synopsis doesn't do the show justice as the story is rich with concepts.
Think of Mad Max crossed with the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, with perhaps a little of the Matrix and Downton Abbey thrown in for good mix.
( To be honest I don't know where I got Downton Abbey from?)The Martial arts set pieces are supremely choreographed.
Many scene blending different elements of weather along with wide slow motion shots.
This is fight choreography done properly. No shaky cam here thank you very much.
Lead actor Daniel Wu is more than competent in the chop socky department and some of the stunt work is truly breathtaking.
I will admit not all of the cast are as accomplished at kicking ass and it is slightly noticeable that doubles are used here and there.
Even Wu himself needing a helping hand from time to time. For me the stand out performance is Marton Csokas His turn as evil Baron Quinn is so hammy he could order a side of eggs and French fries to go with it. To hell with it! Throw on a pineapple ring too!
His over the top accent and theatrical arm waving is an absolute delight. To be honest there isn't a bad performance in the entire show.
Everyone knows what they are into and just go with it.
The inclusion of Nick Frost in season two was a welcome addition and watching a man of his stature do Kung fu is both hilarious and supremely entertaining at the same time.
He's having fun, the sort of fun you had as a kid in the school playground pretending to be Bruce Lee.
And so he should, this show is corny, cheesy, ridiculous but a riotous good time that I highly recommend you get into!

I like martial arts and fight scenes and this show has some of the best fighting scenes I've ever seen. Absolutely outstanding choreography. This is a martial arts fantasy set in a post-apocalyptic world, and yes the plot is not at all believable, so if you're not into kung-fu and expect your post apocalyptic world where some people have supernatural powers to be totally believable then I guess this show will not be for you. The plot though is actually really good, yes you can tear it to pieces, such as asking why they have cars, but no guns, yet if you forget all that, the storyline is very clever, intriguing characters and it keeps you guessing all the way through, you don't easily predict what will come next. The acting is also superb and some good one liners, especially from Nick Frost, for comedic effect. I've watched the first two seasons and I'm really enjoying the third. If you like martial arts movies with a fun plot that doesn't rely on big explosions to fill in half the series then give this a go. Sit down and enjoy the ride!

Dialogue was just getting too lame. Loved the first couple seasons but it has gone right down the crapper this season. Widow ALMOST made me hang on, her and her daughter are the only interesting characters anymore imo. Sunny and the rest are just unbearable to watch anymore.
