Titreenp SERIOUSLY. This is what the crap Hollywood still puts out?
Nonureva Really Surprised!
ShangLuda Admirable film.
Fairaher The film makes a home in your brain and the only cure is to see it again.
tilmanowl Let me start off by saying that the problems that other reviewers state are real and this show has its problems such as:Cons -Extremely bad cheesy dialog scattered through season 1 -The first slow-motion scene where Dutch beats up the dudes in the hallway is just cringey -At times the background music gets a bit annoying (the "sneaking" soundtrack is used multiple times) -At times the show suffers from the age old "this problem would be instantly solved if the main characters talked to each other like normal functioning human beings"However, I think the pros outweigh the cons by a long shot.Pros -It's very funny, more than most modern sci-fi. Interactions between Dutch and Johnny are extremely good -Breaks stereotypes and clichés often. For example: Johnny, the "smart, brainy, engineering" type character isn't the outcast shy scared nerd. He's just as badass as the rest of them and is in general probably the best character (and actor) in the show. For people who have seen the show, this is highlighted in the bolt gun scene in the Royale. -Prop design and sets are very convincing. Despite it's low budget, the props, guns, ship interiors, and everything that contributes to worldbuilding are extremely well done and fleshed out. Really nails the futuristic divided society feel with the ultra rich and ultra poor. -It's refreshing how well the team works together in a variety of situations. Particularly with Dutch and Johnny it's easy to tell that they are a well-oiled warrant claiming machine. Although plans do go wrong often, I find the way the characters react and adapt very realistic. -Suffers less than other shows from the "this problem would be instantly solved if the main characters talked to each other like normal functioning human beings" problem than other shows. Characters often talk to each other and work out their problems to find solutions. Again, the dynamic between Johnny and Dutch is very good. -Grows as a show. I've found each season better than the last (and I've seen s1-s3) and the show grows from a "one warrant per episode" to a more overarching plot with multiple threads direction as the show progresses. -lots moreOverall, this show scratches the "firefly" and "expanse" itch for me. Although it has it's small flaws, I think this show is underrated and a hidden gem. It's a show I come back to when I need some spaceships, mysteries, and shooting bad guys with lasers. I'd recommend this to anyone but I'd warn hardcore sci-fi fans to go into this a bit relaxed and looking for fun as it's usually not very serious and doesn't teach many life lessons--but that's what makes it great!
Graxxor Anandro Vidhelssen Sexy, sassy... but did you know that the series would go rogue and suddenly open itself up? Oh boy are you in for a surprise. Yeah, sure, there's some light juvenile gags and laughs to be had. Yeah, there are pop references that rear their ugly heads once or twice.... but from a 40+ year old's point of view, they were awesomely placed!.... TBH, it's almost as if the writers regret their call to the pops... because season 2 takes the whole teen friendly, popular franchise and turns it on its head... where you had a comfortable family drama, now you have a full blown existential crisis...What a wonderfully unexpected couple of seasons.... season three.... I'm waiting' baby!!!damn yeah!!!
scancelado I have been a science fiction and fantasy fan for many years (that means i have been around for quite a bit); first movies, later in life books and as technology permitted good TV. Before i decided to write this review, i took the time to read others and i was surprised for some of the hate. Good science fiction is hard to come by, good and relatable characters even more, a tread that keep you coming back that is another story. So to start: a like a lot the main characters (especially two),a liked the ability of the writers to pull you in with out to much exposition, each protagonist and some secondary characters have a good background story that its what makes you be interested and returning to the show, and truth to be told it also fun (most of us have a stressful life: work, family, money etc) so no all science fiction should be super serious. I am a sci fi buff so i may be biased but i took the time to watch the first season with my wife (no sci fi fan but a good story fan)and she enjoyed and ask me to buy the second season. it is not perfect but a i think is worth your time.
jnorris-01220 How can anyone give this series more than one star?! The camera is shaking all over the place like a four year old was holding the camera. Closeup out of focus shots and horrible impossible to see what is going on action scenes. And the writing is about a 3. Hazy lighting and awful acting to boot. I am amazed this is rated as high as it is.
