Synopsis

Kindred: The Embraced is an American television series produced by John Leekley Productions and Spelling Television. Loosely based on the role-playing game Vampire: The Masquerade, the series premiered on Fox on April 2, 1996, and ran for eight episodes before it was canceled on May 9, 1996. The series focused on San Francisco Police Detective Frank Kohanek who discovers his city is home to numerous vampires while investigating alleged mobster, Julian Luna. Julian is the "prince" of the city, ruler of five groups of vampires in the city, collectively called "The Kindred". The vampires survive through the "masquerade", disguising themselves as humans, and Julian strictly enforces the laws that govern them to protect their anonymity. Julian and Frank form an uneasy bond as they work together to try to prevent a vampire war and Julian struggles with his romantic feelings for human reporter Caitlin Byrne. The eight episodes of the series have been released on VHS and DVD.

Fluentiama Perfect cast and a good story

IncaWelCar In truth, any opportunity to see the film on the big screen is welcome.
Nicole I enjoyed watching this film and would recommend other to give it a try , (as I am) but this movie, although enjoyable to watch due to the better than average acting fails to add anything new to its storyline that is all too familiar to these types of movies.
Franka Hensen I love Vampire: The Masquerade, and at some point stumbled upon a page describing this show. To be honest, I went in with very low expectations. When I started the first episode, I thought it'd just be some trashy series I could laugh about a bit, in a "so bad it's good" kind of way.Well, nope. The series was actually so good it's good! Yes, there were several differences from the game, and yes, I complained about those at first, too. In the first two or three episodes, I was also skyping with fellow VtM-friends, and pretty much said stuff like "Why aren't you dead?! It's day!" or "Okay, so the Nossi can dominate, and the Ventrue can't?" or "What do you mean, you don't control humans? You're a vampire prince! You're supposed to have a ton of ghouls!" So, don't expect a 1:1 series about the game. That's not what this is. But, do try to see behind the differences. Okay, fine, the vampires walk around during the day, and we never had mentions of the clan flaws except the Nosferatu and kinda-sorta the Brujah. We did, however, get to see some nice higher up kindred talk, which you rarely get in a vampire game. Players aren't usually primogens or princes, even if you're playing older vamps, most don't want to sit around in a city doing politics like that. In general, sure, that's what vampire was meant to be (Not that that means much to my group, but anyway), but not primogen-prince-relationships.The characters were, for the most part, great. Archon is very Ventrue-ish, while Julian is a bit, but not a complete stereotype. I, personally, don't want players to use stereotypes for their characters, so that I liked. Yep, the Brujah aren't all gang members fighting everything and everyone nonstop. The V20 explicitly states that they're not, though many are - And that, as it seems, is true in the world of Kindred as well. Cash is very likable, and Daedalus is honestly incredibly sweet at times. I'm not too fond of Lillie, but that doesn't mean her character wasn't done well, it made perfect sense. To me, she's just not a likable person, but not all characters should be.So, yes, the series has its flaws, whether you are a fan of the pen & paper or not. But it's still a pretty good series, and well worth watching.
docwho69 I know FOX has a history of killing good series before their time, see Strange Luck or Firefly, but they may have taken the high ground discontinuing Kindred: The Embraced. The ratings were there for the show and they were going to continue on with the series except for the fact that Mark Frankel was killed in a motorcycle accident. They could have continued the series without him but felt it would have been the wrong thing to do. Maybe it has been long enough and a network should think about redoing the series. We get series like Blood Ties and Moonlight, etc. and they can't seem to make it these days. Perhaps they should try a license that is more well known. I know that the Star Wars live action series will be huge and so would a fantasy series called Dungeons and Dragons. How about Shadowrun or Champions. Heroes as well as the success of all of the Marvel movies lately has got to show the industry that there is an audience out there. I don't think a series based on Vampire would be a guaranteed hit but it would do well on HBO or Showtime. Thanks
avis-calhoun I remember this short lived show. I don't know why or if this show was taken off the air. I know the actor playing Julian, Mark Frankel was killed in a tragic accident. I recently saw it on the Sci-fi channel and realized Adrienne Paul could have taken over the role of Julian. If you don't remember who Adrienne Paul is, he's the actor that played the lead role in the Highlander TV series. The Sci-fi channel showed a couple of episodes in early December 2007. Adrienne Paul is a dead ringer for Mark Frankel. That series could have continued to run. Does anyone know what happened or why it was canceled? I loved that show and until the Sci-fi channel showed it recently I had forgotten all about it.
henryg I loved the show and never missed one. We even played the role playing game longer than the show lasted. I wish it ran longer or I wish someone would bring it back. It was very interesting with all the different characters, the clans and how they interacted in the city and with all the normal non-vampires in the city too. They were in their own little world and they were also in the normal world, that made it interesting to me. It made you wonder if they are really some out there, the way some people act. The story was great and they could have did more with it if it had lasted longer. I recommend watching it, if it is out there somewhere. I grew up watching Dark Shadows so I have always loved vampires. I also wish there was a cast list for the show on this site. I have seen some of the actors since but don't know their names.
