An interesting idea, with some decent writing, but ultimately a failure in execution. There is a vague attempt to make some of the characters 3-dimensional, but in the end it fails. Ian McShane, though a decent actor, is just too creepy and repulsive to generate any sympathy. The two romantic leads redefine dull, boring, lifeless, and without personality as characters AND actors. And of course, in deference to network policy, the only gay character is a villain in the end, unlike the original story which implies David and 'Jack' (Jonathan) were lovers and that 'Jack' gave up his life for David. And what is Culkin still doing in the business? I mean the guy is totally unable to act. Still it was an interesting idea, if a failure, and they should have ended it properly.

i first watched the show based on my favourite actor mr.mcshane and his uncanny method acting that not only gives u the feel of realism but portrays the kind of depth and passion in characters that u would never know had "that much" depth and passion lol . the show takes the culture and perspective of a medieval period piece with a biblical background set in modern day, as if another version of our world that in so many ways is similar but shows a more solidified belief in catholicism with the notion that kings are actually chosen by god and can in ways communicate also ,,, the kingdom style of government is very interesting and yet also very probable lol ,,if there was anyone ,,,and i mean anyone that could portrait the king of this biblical yet thrivelous world its ian mcshane ! ,,, it seems almost as if he carries his own personal dialogue writer or writes his own lines just by the way he twists and adds tweaks to make what he says and means usually the opposite ,, but still pulled off in that likable way that makes u think wow ,,, hes god lol ,,, the level of intellect and thought that every character mcshane plays is off the charts making him hands down the best actor iv ever seen ,,, the show itself ,,,can be complex to the less focused but is very easy to follow wen the interest is there ,,, the combination of character depth followed by my favourite cliché of absolutely no clichés amazes me ,,, the show takes u deep into the conflict of the countries facing war and even wen ur only given scenes of surface value your still getting the info u need to keep following ,,, the plot organization is done extremely well ,, and once again king silas (ian mcshane) gives u that wonder of who he really is, good or bad , both ,, or maybe even innocent , maybe even the devil himself..as if he can be a story in his self ,,as for the show, intelligent ,, authentic,, draws u in with the side stories and that constant curiosity of the fanatical notion behind the signs of god who he himself is setting a plot story u have to really pay attention to find ,,, awesome show ,,, ian mcshane is television gold watch anything hes in aha ,,,, if u wanna see him play a even more exciting interesting character watch DEADWOOD ! ,,, pce

There are many times that something you watch makes you feel good and is worth the time you've spent watching. There are somewhat less times that what you watch makes you want to watch even more. And there are those very rare times, that when you watch something, it makes you take a deep breath, and restrain yourself from clapping frantically in applaud to a piece of wonderfully crafted art in sheer and pure thankfulness. This is what I felt, when I watched 'Kings', a show that I had no idea about just a few days ago. It is one of those shows that everything, from acting to cast, from story to settings, and from effects to visuals is prepared and presented so skillfully that all you can do is watch in awe and congratulate those that created it.How this show has received close to none coverage in media and acknowledgment in awards is a wonder. 'Kings' is a must watch for anyone; regardless of genre preference. It is one of those rare pearls you find wandering among an ocean of TV shows, and if you give it a chance, you will find it speaks for itself even from the first few minutes...

This is an incredible show. I had never heard of it on TV. I found it on Hulu, and it is one of the best shows I have ever seen. Extremely well made (writing, producing, directing, everything!). I've be lurking around IMDb for years and I made my first account just so I could rate this show. BTW, I've been really bored lately and have seen just about every TV show I can think of, so I have a lot to compare it to.From what I read NBC did a terrible job of advertising this show and scrapped it before even really giving it a try. Which is extremely unfortunate because everyone I have recommended this show to has become obsessed with it.I have found many shows that are entertaining and can keep my attention, but this is one of the very few that I became completely immersed in the storyline.I sincerely hope that this gets another season. It would be a true tragedy if this got cut after 1 season with the crap shows out there on seasons 9 and 10.BTW, I'm not religious at all. This show is great no matter your thoughts on religion.
