Don't listen to the Hype. It's awful
Humaira Grant
It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.

I loved this show when I was four years old! It was very enjoyable for me, and I watched it obsessively for two years. I admit, the characters were very similar to Barbie, but to a four year old, what can be better? The shows gave good lessons in friendship. I remember especially loving an episode where one of the girls ran away (I think it was the brunette) to a tree house over a river. I also remember the photo episode, where the, I believe it was again, brunette came in the same outfit as her rival, which she had done every year since kindergarten. Maxie's World is a fun show, and little kids will love this!

This cartoon was made in 11-minute segments to provide a companion piece to another cartoon, whether it was an 11 minute "Punky Brewster" cartoon or half of a "Beverly Hills Teens" cartoon in order to fill out the entire half hour. I guess that was to make room for the other syndicated shows broadcasts on the UHF channels at that time.I say that because I felt that was probably the ONLY reason why they made this cartoon - too ridiculous to expand into an entire half hour, but they already budgeted money for this turkey so they decided to economize. What can I say? Maxie is an airhead with her own TV show and an equally airheaded boyfriend. Her other friends I could care less about (I can hardly remember their names). I would venture to say that the only aspects of this cartoon that piques my interest is the scattered references to eighties pop culture and that annoyingly catchy theme song at the beginning. The animation is typical of DiC, good character designs but the fluidity is wanting. It is still better than some of the other endeavors made by DiC (*cough*Cyber Cops*cough*) overall ** out of **** stars.

THis show was made by the creators of the sucessful Jem cartoon but it hardly lived up to it. Maxie was too fake and tried too hard to be like Barbie, that it just failed miserably. Only good days of the cartoons were the ones when the showed Beverly Hills Teens. Avoid this at all costs!

Maxie's world was a terrible Barbie ripoff where the rich high school kids worried about their dates and shopping. The choppy animation hurt, the voices hurt and the hurting was only offset by the corny though catchy Saban/Levy theme song. It was often shown along with Gem and the Hologram cartoons.
