I was totally surprised at how great this film. You could feel your paranoia rise as the film went on and as you gradually learned the details of the real situation.

The movie runs out of plot and jokes well before the end of a two-hour running time, long for a light comedy.

The tone of this movie is interesting -- the stakes are both dramatic and high, but it's balanced with a lot of fun, tongue and cheek dialogue.

Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST3K) is a shoe-string budgeted masterpiece of television history and I've only recently been converted to the community of 'MSTies' myself, but wow is this series a whole lot of fun or what? It makes the worst movies ever made into essential watching thanks to crew on the Satellite of Love and The Mads.MST3K is an American production that has all the low-budget production but pricelessly endearing and golden charm of BBC television shows like Red Dwarf, Doctor Who, Fawlty Towers and so-forth; and it's a science fiction show that uses its space-oriented set-up to tell some truly hilarious jokes (especially in the 'Manos: The Hands of Fate' episode). It's also important to note that much like Star Wars or Star Trek, MST3K has a dedicated fan-base that had a pretty vocal and innovative internet community in the 90s which has helped mold modern fandom into what it is today (for better or worse). MST3K is as essential as other television classics like Seinfeld, Friends, Twin Peaks, The Twilight Zone and The Simpsons. MST3K is television for film-lovers and sci-fi junkies.Give this classic from the '80s and '90s a go; it's great, and it's a great proxy for watching some of cinema's greatest mistakes.

I watched this show a few times when it first came out and found it quite entertaining. Now, it's on NetFlix and I began watching it again."Mystery Science Theater 3000" is truly creative, and, very funny. Although "Beavis and Butthead" were doing this same thing a few years earlier by mocking music videos, MST3K has taken this sort of thing to a new level...mocking and tearing-up old and cheesy movies.Someone wrote a comment here about how stupid and 'infantile' it is to make fun of low-budget movies; and, how he'd respect MST3K if they made fun of high-budget movies!?!? That's just it...low-budget movies are made fun of, because...they're low-budget movies! They're cheaply made with silly scripts, poor acting, and, stupid dialog that's easily scorned and worthy of ridicule. Who'd watch a show like this that pokes fun at, and, insults movies like, "The Godfather," "Doctor Zhivago," and, "The Wizard of Oz?" No one! These are movies people want to see without interruptions. Then, again, someone who writes a comment that preposterous is someone who'd turn around and write a comment about how MST3K has a nerve to ridicule high-budget movies - he can't be pleased either way!?!?Another thing about those who dislike MST3K is, I believe, they just don't have the background and/or the mentality to understand the jokes that are being made towards these movies. If you don't understand where the jokes and comments originated, you won't understand how they're being applied here. It's the same as the review I wrote on IMDb about the original "Rocky and His Friends"(1959). In order to understand that show, especially "Grimm Fairy Tales" and "Fractured Fairy Tales," you first need to know about those original stories. For example - if you don't have a simple background in, or, knowledge of, "Rapunzel" or "Goldilocks," you won't understand the jokes related to these. The three main characters in MST3K make many references to people and events from long ago. Most people nowadays don't know who Rose Marie(Hollywood Squares), Doris Day. or, Foghorn Leghorn is/was, so, they don't understand the references.Granted...some of the movies being made fun of on MST3K probably shouldn't have even been here at all. One in particular is the Russo-Finnish movie "Morozko"(1964) (aka "Frosty")...on MST3K as "Jack Frost." This movie, and, fairy tale, is a classic in Russia, and, in most of Europe. It's well-made and well-acted. Even one of the cast of MST3K states that Natalya Sedykh makes Olivia Hussey("Romeo and Juliet" 1968) look like Thelma Ritter, and...that's saying a lot seeing that Olivia Hussey was beautiful in that movie.Either way, and, regardless of what inept tards may think, or, not think at all, I love this show! It's people who criticize and knock down creative shows like this who lead to diagnostic terms such as 'sociopath' and 'imbecile.'

This is currently rated 8.7 up there with the greatest TV series of all time. Really? Really? I get the premise. Some of the movies are so boring the only way to watch them is by making fun of them. However there are also older Saturday matinée movies aimed at kids in the day. They weren't really meant to be taken seriously. They were just time passers for 10 year old kids. To flog these movies just hits a bad note with me. But the biggest problem I have with this is that I don't find their comments funny.I don't like to ridicule the past. Modern audiences might allow themselves to think they are enlightened but to me if feels too much like making fun of the weakest kid in the class at recess. And that 8.7 out of 10 rating, that is ridiculous. The bar is just so low these days...

MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000 (MST3K for short) is maybe the single most original idea ever in the history of TV! While other formats that make fun of pop culture got stale after a while (SNL being the biggest example!), MST3K was never boring. The basic concept is that a human and 2 robots would make fun of, or riff, cheesy drive-in movies, mostly of the "sci-fi" genre. Over it's 11-year run, MST3K managed to riff an eclectic mix of crappy movies from the 50s to the 80s (and a couple of 90s turds managed to sneak in there!). Also, in between riffing the movies, they did "host segment" bits that mimicked or mocked parts of the movie. The original "human" was the MST3K creator Joel Hodgson, and his 2 bots Tom Servo (voiced for virtually the entire run by show writer and actor Kevin Murphy) and Crow T. Robot (originally voiced by Trace Beaulieu). Trace Beaulieu also played Dr. Clayton Forrester, Joel's tormentor that made him and the bots watch crappy movies. TV's Frank was Forrester's sidekick and they were a hoot. After a few years, Joel left and show writer and actor Mike Nelson was promoted to being the human host, along with Tom and Crow (voiced now by Bill Corbett). In later years, Mike's new tormentor was Pearl (played by Mary Jo Pehl). Pearl's sidekicks were Bobo (Murphy) and Brain Guy (Corbett). While the Joel/Forrester years are definitely enjoyable, I feel they upped the ante big time during the Mike/Pearl years! While Joel and Forrester had a relationship comprised of civility and witty banter, Mike and Pearl had a kind of childish yin-yang thing where they traded jabs and insults nonstop. Both pairs worked and it's nice to have that duality as you can go back and watch either one, depending on which you're in the mood for.The Joel/Forrester years were fun and the jokes were much more sublime and witty and you really have to have patience to get into some of those eps. My favorite Joel episode is far and away POD PEOPLE, which I think may actually be the best of the series. Every jab and pun that Joel and the bots threw at that movie worked! But the Mike/Pearl years are much more "in your face", insulting humor and the pop culture references are so general, you'll get the jokes right away, so you'll be laughing constantly. I like more of the Mike eps, like SOULTAKER (my favorite!), OVERDRAWN AT THE MEMORY BANK (starring Raul Julia!), THE SCREAMING SKULL, SPACE MUTINY, and TOUCH OF Satan! So many to choose from! Another huge bonus for some of the movies is watching the guys and bots riff those crappy 50s shorts that precede the movies. Sometimes, that is even more fun than the movies! I just wish the show had gone for at least another 4 or 5 years b/c there's still so many crappy movies that have yet to be riffed!
