The film creates a perfect balance between action and depth of basic needs, in the midst of an infertile atmosphere.
Keeley Coleman
The thing I enjoyed most about the film is the fact that it doesn't shy away from being a super-sized-cliche;
Sienna-Rose Mclaughlin
The movie really just wants to entertain people.
Dana
An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.

I was a big fan of One Day at a Time, the 70s sitcom I recall mainly for how hot I was for Mackenzie Philips, who was my age but much cooler.This reboot takes the basic premise of a struggling mother and a couple of kids and changes pretty much everything. The family is Latino, the two daughters are now gender-balanced, there's a live-in grandmother, and Schneider is a hipster.And yet, the feel of it is pretty much exactly like the original. It's a funny, old-school sitcom in which a crisis involving hard-felt believes arises and everyone talks it out. This was the basic formula of Norman Lear series of the 70s, and here he has returned to form with a mix of very funny jokes an very serious conversations about important things. The changes from the first series acknowledge the issues almost no one was talking about in the 70s.I'm not that big on old school sitcoms. ODAAT has the three camera set-up, the live audience (not a laugh track, as unknowledgeable viewers describe it) and the broad, audience pleasing approach to comedy that feels relentlessly old-fashioned in the age of Kimmy Schmidt and Veep. But it's a really good example of this approach, often very funny with touching moments and a likable cast.They even brought Mackenzie Philips back for a guest shot!

I love this show! I have binge-watched both seasons 1 and 2. This is such a warm hearted and funny comedy that portrays a Cuban Spanish-American family and their ups and downs. This show is very current and politely delves into controversial issues faced by many demographics, making this very relatable. The casting was perfect and they acting is stellar. This is a must see show! I pray for a 3rd season.

I am so pleasantly surprised by this show. It's so relatable for us latinx folk, it's progressive, it's heartwarming, and it tackles so many social issues in very realistic ways with positive solutions. This is one of the best shows I've seen in a while. I think everyone should watch this show, I believe everyone could learn from a show like this. I hope Netflix keeps this one for a long time.

I grew up watching Norman Lear shows, and it's really cool to be watching this reimagining of the original One Day at a Time with my teenage daughter. We both love this show, and I think that speaks volumes to how hilarious and relatable the characters and episodes are. It takes talent to create a show that is compelling across a 40 year difference in age! In particular, we really like the reimagining of the family as Cuban-American, and the single mom being a combat veteran. The writing on all episodes is superb - hilarious, heartwarming, and yet still thought provoking with regard to current issues in families and in our country. They've handled so many hot topics in various episodes, and done so in a thoughtful way. The entire cast is simply amazing - each actress and actor makes a very special contribution to the show. Hats off to both Rita Moreno and Norman Lear who are still going strong.
