Synopsis

In this modern world, air travel represents the height of luxury and Pan Am is the biggest name in the business. The planes are glamorous, the pilots are rock stars and the stewardesses are the most desirable women in the world. They're trained to handle everything from in-air emergencies to unwanted advances—all without rumpling their pristine uniforms or mussing their hair.

ManiakJiggy This is How Movies Should Be Made
Beystiman It's fun, it's light, [but] it has a hard time when its tries to get heavy.
Billie Morin This movie feels like it was made purely to piss off people who want good shows
Hayleigh Joseph This is ultimately a movie about the very bad things that can happen when we don't address our unease, when we just try to brush it off, whether that's to fit in or to preserve our self-image.
mathmaniac I was finally ready to watch this series on amazon instant video. I'm in the mood for nostalgia! I am in the mood to see women who wear girdles and gloves and put rollers in their hair at night so that they will look 'finished' under their perky little caps. Above all, I want to see people smoking. The series did not disappoint. It had all of that and some good music from the 60s. As some have pointed out, there are mistakes in the details shown of the period but the it does seem to capture the mood of that era pretty well - with a heavy layer of political correctness when the writers of course have to have modern themes: the lesbian kiss, the interracial couple, etc. And communism - of course. Taking a trip by airplane in those days? Much different experience. I love seeing this. I wonder where it went and why it had to go, all this hospitality. I think I know: it's cheaper to treat the travelers like they are on a Greyhound bus and fit as many seats into the plane as is possible. But, ah, those were the days!
samtrak1204 The stewardesses look just the way I remember them when I was flying 1/2 fare student standby on Eastern and Delta in the 60's (when coach passengers were served full course meals...and drinks cost a dollar!) My fake college ID kept me fly high in the friendly sky.Female flight attendants were all young and pretty because the airlines enforced severe restrictions on age, race, weight, figure, height, and marital status (singles only!). No, June Cleaver could not be a waitress in the sky in the good old days. Airlines were selling service and sex appeal! At that time flight crews were 99% white before discrimination laws ended the airborne fantasy.Male pilots were rarely as young as this TV cockpit crew because most were probably retired military hired by airlines after flying planes in World War II and Korean Conflict. The opening scene has just flown me back 50 years (my God am I that old?) and I am already hooked. I never flew Pan Am but I am sorry the TV show never got off the ground.
phd_travel Anything historical from the 60s seems in these days. It's better than another crime solving grisly TV series anytime. At least the stories have some fascinating subjects. They try on a TV series budget to give an international feel and sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. The CIA theme is a bit contrived but what else can they do to spice things up. They seem to behave a bit modern for the times. Faults: The stories are not good. Not very much happens each episode. Sometimes you feel you wasted an hour. The relationships feel contrived and artificial. The cast has some hits and misses. Karine Vanasse is pretty like Sophie Marceau. Like her Continental look. Kelli Garner isn't pretty enough for her large role. Her mouth actually is kind of distractingly unattractive. Huge mistake casting her. Margot Robbie is a bit out of place but more attractive. Christina Ricci is fiesty and looks better than last time but still looks a bit out of place and quirky. Mike Vogel is pleasant but a bit bland. Of the 60s based TV shows I actually thought Playboy Club was better. Sad it was cancelled. This is no Mad Men - it's less serious but also no way as good. It's a bit low mentality in it's approach. Will it make it to season 2? Hard to say unless stories get better.
reknob I'm sooo disappointed in this, I really am.I had to stifle laughter often during the first few episodes - the "Captain" of the crew is about 25 years old for crying out loud! He and his co-pilot looking at each other laughing during take-off etc, I mean for God's sake! The "spy" stuff is just beyond belief, I mean, talk about being desperate for writing material! This is only good for your average 90 IQ girls, I can't believe any men would give this more than an episode or two before wanting a refund on their wasted time. SOME of the girls look good but you really won't want to be following the well-worn soap opera "plot lines" (basically weddings and romance and girls falling out with girls and boys and mothers and etc etc *YAWNATHON*).It's utterly pointless and the "Pan Am" setting could be anything, there's nothing here that is specific to Pan Am at all, it's purely a glamorous setting of convenience ...Turn the sound down (noone has anything interesting to say, ever), put on a favourite album and enjoy what (little, really) eye candy there is but seriously, for all but the braindead amongst us, this shouldn't even be in the top ten of your watch list. What was Christina Ricci thinking??!!What a waste ...
