What a waste of my time!!!

Tied for the best movie I have ever seen
Lidia Draper
Great example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.
Asad Almond
A clunky actioner with a handful of cool moments.

I remember watching this several years ago, though I think I caught the episodes as reruns on the USA Channel. Excellent premise and wonder cast chemistry. Even though I wasn't a scifi buff back then, I found myself pouring through the TV guide (hey, it was before the age of TiVo) to watch them all.The basic storyline of a superior race evolving and competing with modern day man has been redone a couple of times since. Threshold was one such show...also prematurely canceled before it could gain a foothold among the gamut of reality shows and crime scene spin-offs. I think the reason Prey featured foremost in my memory was because of the character of Tom. He brought such a alternate view of the evolving species and exuded a quiet and humble strength. Watching him struggle with his increased feelings for humanity (and in particular, Sloan) versus his instinct for his race's survival was mesmerizing. I hated the series finale and how it left audiences clueless about his fate.

Channel 4 broadcast PREY in the early spring of 1999 in the late night Thursday night slot previously held by the premier season of OZ . As you know OZ is a brutal and brilliant HBO prison drama complete with shocking images and unrestrained language , the best type of adult drama the United States has ever produced . I don`t know why but for some reason reading the series premise ( About a new breed of evolved serial killer trying to elimanate the unevolved human race ) in the TV guide put it into my mind I`d be watching a show that would do for American sci-fi what OZ had done for prison dramas . After seeing the first couple of episodes I was severly disappointed , of course this was mainly down to somewhat confused expectations on my part , but there was nothing in the way of shocking imagery in this mainstream TV show which owes more to something like LAW AND ORDER with its " Let`s find the serial killer " plots rather THE X-FILES and I gave up on the series very quickly As a footnote there`s a reason why all the reviews on this page seem to be by Americans , this is because when shown on channel 4 in Britain it was broadcast about 11.45 pm without any type of fanfare . I`m surprised if any Brits have heard of it never mind seen it

Prey was one of the programmes that was kept you hooked and I managed to catch every episode even though it was screened late at night it a slot it never deserved. It kept me away from my study books.I would love to see it revived just to find out the conclusion to the cliff-hanger but unfortunately it's now 4 years and Debra Messing (Sloan Parker) has moved onto "Will and Grace" which is passable.Oh well.....it's a shame I didn't get to video it.

The most original concept for a TV series. The character development was spot-on and completely unpredictable and the plots were punched-in-the-belly exciting. Looking at some of the hackneyed, ho-hum series currently being aired, I cannot believe that a show with such potential for good ratings could be cancelled!!!It's about time that studio executives listened to the demands of the viewers and gave us what we wanted.
