This is a tender, generous movie that likes its characters and presents them as real people, full of flaws and strengths.

Great movie! If you want to be entertained and have a few good laughs, see this movie. The music is also very good,

The original 1966 series lives on as if it never ended...however the actors are not the same.An amazing attempt to bring a 50 year old TV series back to life! The sets, costumes, and scores match up so well with the old show.Four words: give it a chance! The original 1966 series has been a lifelong partner to me so, at first, "Continues" bothered me because it seemed to be playing around with ideas and plots I had spent decades watching and re-watching. At first, I never liked the "Continues" cast, but after a few episodes I began to warm to them all.I have followed all the 1980s and 1990s film/TV Star Treks, love them all, I also like the new Netflix series, and after all that I think there is just enough room for one more Star Trek series: "Continues".At the time of the this review I really have only one issue with "Continues", the forced attempts at humour between Kirk/Spock/Bones. However, in time maybe even those bits will grow on me???In a nutshell: this will never be as good as the 1966 original, but it makes a pleasing very well thought out copy.

To the producers of this show: THERE IS ONLY ONE CAPTAIN KIRK (William Shatner). We don't want to see some ugly effeminate dude with a high-pitched voice trying to stand in for the great Bill Shatner. THERE IS ONLY ONE MR. SPOCK (Leonard Nimoy). We don't want to see some guy with a goofy haircut and the wrong complexion who looks like he's 11-years old doing a bad job of trying to be Spock.Same notation for all the other characters. And therein lies the problem: the producers should have used all new characters (example: Captain Smith, Science Officer Jones, etc.), and they should be on a different ship (example: U.S.S. Independence). The idea to 'continue' the series with a Starfleet ship, the same sets, the same ship sounds, the same uniforms (especially the chicks in those mini-skirts), this was an exciting idea. But to get other actors to play such beloved characters from the original series was a death sentence for the show.An example of my theory is the new character of Elise McKenna (Michele Specht). She is believable and beautiful. This was a promising show idea, but when the producers came to the question of either making the crew the same characters from the original series - or - making the crew a different one, they made the wrong choice.Opportunity missed. Too bad.

Just watched E10 "To Boldly Go: Part 1" and I can see that the writing, set designs, costumes, sound, photography keeps improving. "Star Trek Continues" is far better than "Star Trek Continues" which has much more money to continue the ST saga. Kudos to these Star Trek fans for keeping it authentic to the TOS used to be!

I just stumbled across this on You Tube, but wow, awesome. I've watched the first two episodes.I'm not some huge "trekkie". I watched the original series when it aired (yes, I'm an old man) and liked it, but my opinion of subsequent Trek incarnations went steadily downhill. You have to understand that in may ways this series is a homage to the original series. It does not attempt to go in any new directions: quite the opposite, it appears to be a deliberate attempt at "more of the same".I was amazed at how well they reproduced the original sets. I didn't study pictures of the original series and this side by side to compare, but the bridge and the transporter room looked the same to me, and other places clearly had the same look and feel. I'd be interested to know how they produced the sets: did they get their hands on 50-year old sets from Desilu? Did they reproduce them by studying the old series? Etc. Similarly, the model of the Enterprise looks the same to me, the sound effects all sound the same, the background music is the same style, etc.The new Captain Kirk was clearly trying to imitate the style and mannerisms of the original Captain Kirk, and I think he does a very good job of this. The other actors don't seem to take reprising the roles quite so far. They're more what you'd expect of a new actor in a familiar role. The plots of these first two episodes clearly show the "homage" factor. The first episode is a sequel to an episode from the original series, "Who Mourns for Adonais?" (Much as "Wrath of Khan" was a sequel to an episode from the original series.) The second episode is a homage in two ways: the main character is an "Orion slave girl" a la the brief scene in the original pilot that apparently fascinated fans so much, and it carries on the Star Trek tradition of heavy-handed social messages. (Though at least this time it wasn't about racism.)I see there are, as of this writing, a total of 7 episodes made. I'll have to see how the other 5 fare.I'd score this as follows:Fidelity to the original sets, miniatures, costumes, and music: 9Recreating the original cast: Kirk 9, the rest average maybe 6 or 7.Fidelity to themes and writing style: 8Originality: 2
