Surprisingly incoherent and boring

Very interesting film. Was caught on the premise when seeing the trailer but unsure as to what the outcome would be for the showing. As it turns out, it was a very good film.

The movie really just wants to entertain people.

If you're interested in the topic at hand, you should just watch it and judge yourself because the reviews have gone very biased by people that didn't even watch it and just hate (or love) the creator. I liked it, it was well written, narrated, and directed and it was about a topic that interests me.

The conceptual foundation of this series was simply amazing. The potential for intrigue and mystery was off the charts, but the casting was very poor. The characters were hard to identify with, empathize with and often too easy to hate. The dynamics and chemistry wasn't there. (The expanse and Game of thrones are benchmarks of stellar casting and personality/character selection)Lastly the biggest problem with the show was its name. Stargate is synonymous to lighthearted pop-corn sci-fi. Stargate Universe was a dark and gritty sci fi. The producers tried to switch flavors on the existing fan base instead of reaching out to the appropriate audience.I give it a 9 star rating for the amazing idea behind the show and its potential.

While Stargate Universe is certqainly a departure from the rest of the Stargate franchise - it is certainly the jewel in the crown. A far more mature and "realistic"portrayal of space travel with brillian actors and story arcs and twistrs. A shame they only produced 2 series as this could haver and should have revbooted the franchise with loads of movie potential. I would have loved to have seen more.

Went back to watch a borrowed DVD Set 1 for the first time recently; I made it through the 1st 3 episodes, gagging most of the way, and finally gave up. It was a good concept to start with and it could have been brilliant; then they totally wasted the opportunity. The scripts are mediocre to awful. As another reviewer states, its like a mashup of the worst parts of Battlestar Galactica and Days Of Our Lives - endlessly boring personal dramas. I CANNOT figure out who this was aimed at - young teen girl Taylor Swift fans and young teen boys addicted to video games perhaps? In retrospect I wonder why they didn't just go ahead and also work in a character that's a busty pop superstar, who could do the occasional music video in between manufactured emergencies - it wouldn't make any less sense that anything else going on.

Spoiler: Nothing happens.Imagine if Stargate Atlantis consisted almost entirely of episodes where no one left Atlantis, Atlantis never left it's planet, Atlantis contains no interesting technology, and the Wraith don't exist.Or stargate SG1: the gate only goes to a few planets. A team goes through. They don't find anything on the other side but they can't get back. There are no fantastic technological discoveries to play with. There are no more superpower aliens out there threatening our existence as a species. Instead of using technology to solve problems on an epic scale, they worry about mundane stuff like food supplies for 100 people. Any semblance of plot moves at a snails pace. Everything goes wrong. It's painful to watch. It's a drama not sci-fi.
