Most undeservingly overhyped movie of all time??

All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.

Starsky and Hutch was my absolute favorite show (and obsession) for two formative years of my life, and probably will always hold a special place in my heart. I still can watch it and smile, even forty years later. The first two seasons contained some amazing stuff and changed a lot of my youthful ideas about the kinds of relationships and emotions that can be expected of men. All positive and important information for a teen girl trying to understand the adult world, and especially men. The second two seasons ran a gambit of styles and never seemed to find its footings, so it lost me back then. I'm rediscovering it now and learning to appreciate some parts that were beyond me in the past (though some of it defies explanation). David Soul and Paul Michael Glaser were so good at what they did; I don't think they get enough credit. They could be absolutely stellar as their characters and, although they often had great dialog to work with, non-verbal communication was their forte. That talent they had with each other was sometimes enhanced for amazing results and sometimes exploited and squandered. Although they had to contend with extreme variations of style of writing and directing and story lines, when they were given good stuff, they nailed it every time. Starsky and Hutch is still very watchable even forty year later. The show is a roller coaster ride of ups and downs and crazy curves. But as with any great coaster, you never will forget the ride.

Starsky and Hutch was the first of the wisecracking "buddy cop" shows (and later movies), and in the first season that's what you got: Action/violence and glib one-liners, not only from the main characters, but from the various street stoolies and other people Starsky and Hutch would run across. (How can you not like Huggy Bear?) Some of the dialog in season one in particular was damned funny. Alas, it immediately went downhill in season 2 and picked up speed in seasons 3 and 4.When it first went to air Starsky and Hutch was the grittiest, most realistic (and funniest) cop show ever put on TV. This was especially true of the pilot, originally shown as a "movie of the week." What really makes this show work in the early episodes in particular is the relationship between the two main characters (established in the pilot movie), which is completely believable in spite of it being the subject of jokes (gay references in particular because they would openly display affection for one another). In truth they act like siblings; brothers who constantly snipe at and try to one-up each other, but when it really counts are always there for one another. It was made clear in the pilot, where the two suspect corruption either in their police department or in the DA's office. Starsky asks Hutch point blank, "Who do we trust?" Hutch says, "The same people we always trust. Us."Then it jumped the shark with the first episode of season 2: the lame on location 2 parter "The Las Vegas Strangler." Any time a show starts resorting to multiple part episodes and sending the main characters to various locations, you know it's in trouble and has run out of ideas (or decent writers). By season 2 the main characters were already becoming parodies of themselves, and in Seasons 3 and 4 it only got worse (4 in particular was awful).I give it 5 out of 10 because of Season 1.

I grew up watching this show, Bottom line no others came close to the action, Drama, and slap stick comedy all rolled into a 1 hour show. And just for the record had the coolest car sense the 60's Batman T.V. show! We all know the Torino was a stock 302cid automatic transmission car but non the less it sounded cool when it had to. And yes I saw the movie. At least when the Torino ( in the movie ) was airborne you could see it was a dual exhaust car. And if you watched the series you know that Hutch was not a " shady " cop. And lastly, in the series, Starsky and Hutch, THEY pushed around the " uniformed officers " not the other way around. as well as in the series. the Dolbey did not like Huggy Bear and never would have offered him a job

This was the original super cop show. Its plot was simple, take two young cops and have them go after every villain in an unnamed American city and in the process get into either a pier six brawl or into a major shoot-out where the person they were supposed to arrest gets killed in the process. This was a very simplistic show that appealed to the short attention spans of people in the seventies. Glaser and Soul did an okay job with the material they were given, but this was just another juvenile cop show that trivialized police work and just like the other cop shows produced by Spelling/Goldberg (The Rookies and S.W.A.T.) it was just another excuse for excess violence.
