Good idea lost in the noise

The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful
Freeman
This film is so real. It treats its characters with so much care and sensitivity.
Kayden
This is a dark and sometimes deeply uncomfortable drama

Loved the series, I just wished they gave it another season or two :(

Reading other comments it seems increasingly difficult to please critics. Fortunately i watched this series on Netflix before reading any comments. The entire concept of going back in time requires a stretch of the imagination and raises a host of questions. Great special effects and the odd twist and turn are thrown into this action adventure movie as people from a bleak future fight dinosaurs and others who threaten them in the past. After 13 episodes i was left wanting to see more.

Because trying to make sense of this dreadful, over-hyped, under written piece of frelling dren has actually make me dumberer. The premise was: humans clinging to the edge in a world of dinosaurs. The actuality is: Look out! It's another Fantasysaurus Bulletproofus! Our guns, they do nothing! Again! A Pseudo-Science solution is required. Huzzah for Pseudo-Science! Again! No sense of frontier survival. Huge clean glazed and painted houses with waxed flooring, vast wardrobes of clean clothes, clean bedding, clean hair. Hard work is occasionally mentioned but rarely seen. Who built this colony? It's certainly not the mob of spineless, idle loafers currently inhabiting it.Far too much tedious politics and plot. Why did a group of settlers split off and how did they survive? Is Terra Nova in a different time stream from 2149 or not? Who made the strange rock markings? SPOILER: You won't care. You really, truly won't, because you have no reason to care about any of the idiotic, posturing plonkers involved."Teen" tribulations played out by the usual superannuated mob of 20-somethings desperately clinging to their lost youth. The love interests for both of our irksome teen protagonists are played by actors about seven years older than them - and they looks it - which is well into creepy territory.Mediocre to poor acting. Most of the supporting cast is tolerable enough, but Shelly Conn is simply dreadful, far too focused on ee-nun-cee-aye-ting her plummy drawl to actually put any character into the performance.Lazy, plagiaristic writing. Plots and whole lines are simply ripped off wholesale from other, better productions. It's no surprise that the dreadful Brannon Brago, the man who killed Star Trek, has his toxic finger in this festering pie. Characters are mere stereotypes, the dialogue is entirely exposition.Normally I'd bemoan the waste of talent, but there really isn't any in evidence.Terra Nova was rightfully put out of its misery and there's no need to mourn its passing.

For some reason then it took me five years to get around to watching "Terra Nova", despite the fact that a friend told me good things about it when it was showing back in 2011. But I happened to come across it in a second hand DVD store, and decided to give it a chance.I must say that I have been missing out on something quite entertaining. Sure, while the concept idea is not original, and might actually be a rip off at certain stages, it still proved to be quite entertaining. What worked for me here, was a myriad of things. Let's start with the concept idea of time traveling back to the prehistoric time and starting a colony, which was the focal point of the movie. That worked out quite well, and made for a good foundation for the series. Although there were some blanks here and there in the background of it all. And the storyline in the series was also quite good, lots of interesting things happening here, and the writers were good at including multiple people and families in the events that took place in and around the Terra Nova colony. And finally, the characters in the series. There was clearly a lot of thought being put into the characters, as they had good details and often an elaborate background story to be told as well. The effects in "Terra Nova" were good, well most of the time anyway. There were some moments when the dinosaurs looked quite fake and it was painstakingly clear that it was CGI. But for most parts it was working out nicely, and the dinosaurs were well animated and looked realistic enough. However, the driving force of "Terra Nova" was the cast. They had managed to put together a great ensemble of cast for this series. Especially Stephen Lang, he was shining in this role.Normally I am not overly keen on Sci-Fi as per se, but creators Kelly Marcel and Craig Silverstein managed to put together something quite entertaining here with "Terra Nova".If you haven't already seen the series, I can warmly recommend that you take the time to watch all thirteen episodes, as it is quite entertaining. I am rating "Terra Nova" a solid score of seven out of ten stars.
