What a beautiful movie!
Nayan Gough
A great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.

By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.

The movie really just wants to entertain people.

I picked up The Dead Zone from a bargain bin at a local movie store, knowing full well any given Stephen King movie can either be very good, or very bad, with little middle ground.Once I opened up the movie case, I noted stamped across the DVD was "Lion's Gate", who are notorious for releasing B and Z grade horror movies.I figured that King + Lion's Gate = horrible movie. I was wrong !This movie moved along at a nice pace, the acting was good, and over it was enjoyable to watch. I know the whole "wake up from a coma, with psychic powers", has been done to death, and almost from the start it is a cliché, but it is not clichéd in a bad way.Only real problem I have is they keep bringing up points regarding the Reverend character, but that subplot is completely pointless to me.As far as the DVD it's self, there is * NO * option to turn the subtitles off.I recommend this movie if you have nothing better to watch, and are in the mode for a light psychological film.

Making a TV show out of a fantastic Stephen King (book and)movie is a bold move! But with a great Anthony Michael Hall they succeeded in creating a series full of drama and suspense! I saw things in the first three seasons that were exciting and thrilling! Almost every episode contained a surprise in some form! Anthony Michael Hall created his own character very different from the movie! He adds some humor but also is intense and even frightening when needed! The sound and visual effects that are used to show how John's visions work are one of the highlights of the show! I also liked that Johnny was constantly improving in using his ability! I don't know what happened after these three wonderful seasons! Season 4 had it's moments but already was a sign that the series was getting worse! Inconsistencies in the plot,no improvement in skill, repetitive story lines,no real surprises) I do not want to talk about fifth season, because that season doesn't even come close to what "Dead Zone" was! After seeing 2 episodes from the sixth season I only can conclude that this one is even worse than the fifth season! It is very disappointing to see a fantastic show being turned into a show that it is now! Nothing inventive, boring (repetitive) story lines, one major character killed off,for some reason the Armageddon is stopped (for now, just like that) and almost no John L. Adams as Bruce! I think the character of Bruce was necessary since he kept John Smith sane! And also provided some great interaction between them! It should have been better if they would have stopped this show after the third season! I will keep on watching the show for closure but I sincerely hope that the show will improve to the high level of the first three seasons! The grade (9) I have given is for the first three seasons!Season 4: 7Season 5: 5,5Season 6: ???

i thought i might add a review as well. i have seen 5 episodes so far and have to say i'm not really impressed. in fact i am amazed that the series made it into 5 seasons, so i certainly hope it gets much better.i hoped so as well before i saw episode 4 in season 1 called "enigma". it would be a fair so-so episode much later after a few years of the show, where the writers ran out of ideas - but to see something like that in the first season, where you want to hook up people on it (and not bore them to death), is really weird. OK, maybe the episode looked better on paper - lets go for the next one "unreasonable doubt". better than the last one (but OK, that wasn't hard to manage) but still not even good.the scheme is always the same: psychic guy touches someone/something, has a vision (some of them are technically very nice!) and is always right about it. after that he has to convince the others that he's right. where is the suspense in that? his visions are too clear - and i wonder how he can get always the "important" information (that can carry on the plot) out of a person/object and not one other from the millions of possibilities. strangely enough, neither the main character nor anyone else gets thoughts about that fact.i'll give this series another try when i'm really really bored and there are no other series to watch - otherwise i might end up being grumpy about the wasted time. but it might be that i rather start watching the x-files on DVD again, even though i know all of them, they don't bore me when i'm seeing it a second or third time - in contrary to "the dead zone", which bored me the first time i watched it and i definitely won't see it a second time...

I have been reading Stephen King novels for almost thirty years, way before his name became bigger than the title on the cover. During those years King has reached many peaks, along with a few troughs. In my opinion, his finest work was The Dead Zone. When the feature film was released in 1983 I was so disappointed that David Cronenburg had missed the point of the novel. The meaning of the Dead Zone was completely misunderstood, while such an important character as Greg Stillson was introduced at such a late stage, he might as well have been the postman.I'd heard good things about the TV series, so when it started a repeat run tonight I looked forward to it enormously. After seeing one episode I feel so let down. Here was the chance to tell it like the book! What did they do? They killed off Johnny's parents, such important characters in the novel. Where was the wailing of his mother, or the good common sense of his father? There was no agonising by Sarah, instead. she marries the sheriff and they bring up a baby, presumably Johnny's, when in the novel Johnny and Sarah had never shared a bed! When the original story is so good, why do movie makers and TV producers feel the need to change things? To my mind it's laziness in the extreme. It's small wonder that Stephen King is often frustrated by the way his books have been turned to film. I've only seen the first episode, but based on this I can only award it 2 out of 10.
