Synopsis

Will, a street-smart teenager, moves from the tough streets of West Philly to posh Bel-Air to live with his Uncle Philip, Aunt Vivian, his cousins — spoiled Hilary, preppy Carlton and young Ashley — and their sophisticated British butler, Geoffrey. Though Will’s antics and upbringing contrast greatly with the upper-class lifestyle of his extended relatives, he soon finds himself right at home as a loved part of the family.

Cassandra Story: It's very simple but honestly that is fine.
RaspberryLucozade If anyone swooned American audiences in the '90's, then it was Will Smith. Formerly a rap artist, 'The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air' gave the fresh faced actor a chance to exploit his skills as a talented comic. Here he played a more surreal version of himself. After being forced to leave his hometown of Philadelphia, Will moves in with his upwardly mobile Aunt Vivian ( Janet Hubert Whitten, then Daphne Maxwell Reid ) and Uncle Phil ( James Avery ). They, along with his cousins Ashley ( Tatyana M, Ali ) and Hilary ( Karyn Parsons ) accept Will with open arms, however he is usually at loggerheads with his cousin Carlton ( Alfonso Riberio ).I have not seen the show for many years but do remember enjoying it immensely and for me it was one of the finest American comedies of the '90's. The boisterousness of the studio audience ( a common trait with American sitcoms ) can sometimes irritate but fortunately the high quality of the comedy itself is enough to overlook this little bug. Will is on extremely good form here and is backed up by a more than competent cast, particularly James Avery as his fiery Uncle Phil. The minute you see the hilarious opening titles, done in the form of rap music, you know you are in for a good time. Also of good value is Joseph Marcell as Geoffrey, the family's sarcastic butler and Jeffrey A, Townes as Mr. Jazz, Will's flashy friend ( who happened to be Will's DJ in real life ). The scenes in which he would regularly be thrown forcibly out of the house were classic moments of comedy. Will may have done other things but to me he will always be 'The Fresh Prince'.
ComedyFan2010 It is already so long ago. Now Will Smith is the same age as uncle Phil was at the end of the show. And James Avery who portrayed Philip Banks is unfortunately dead. But the show itself hasn't lost it's humor and charm. I enjoyed it to the fullest rewatching it now, and actually watching it for the first time from beginning to the end. While it was Will Smith who became the most famous after, I would say it were the other characters who made the show as wonderful as it is. James Avery as uncle Phil was one of my favorites. It was amazing acting where he brought us both humor and emotions. I loved to see this man taking care of his nephew as his own son, help him to become a man and build such an amazing connection with him. This was all portrayed greatly. One of the reasons I would not want to see a reboot of this show is because it will never be the same without him. Alfonso Ribeiro as Carlton was also delightful. So much great comedy with this extraordinary personality and his trademark dancing. Definitely unforgettable. Joseph Marcell was an amazing Geoffrey. All this wit and sarcasm made him one of the best on the show. Karyn Parsons was a great Hilary. She made this character who was very shallow and snobby also very likable. Those are the ones who gave me the most laughter. The rest were also great addition. Vivian and Ashley were just very ordinary people, but the acting was superb. Pretty much every story is fun and original. Even the jokes that get repeated (Carlton's height, Phil's weight etc.) don't seem to be a problem and make it look repeatable. And watching Jazz being thrown out of the house was always great fun. Part of me wishes there were more seasons, but I am also happy that it ended at it's peak so it was great from the beginning to the end. I would tell young people who were born too late and missed it to watch it, it is still hilarious.
Garry Hixon This is the funniest show I have ever seen. Will Smith is a genius and has a beautiful wife and family. Some of the cast are still working, most are not. He is very tall and very funny, its funny watching a black family act so white. I never really had time to watch the show when it aired, or in syndication, but I caught quite a few over the years. He plays the Fresh Prince and is rich, he inherits money but can never get to it like I Love Lucy. He is always trying to get a job, but always gets fired. Another show I like is Family Matters, although erkel is terrible, the rest are a riot, and of course The Cosby Show, the funniest show on television. Bill- Cosby is a genius and that show is still a riot, much much better than the obviously forgettable Family Ties, why that show aired ill never know. Well anyway thats my review, I hope black people realize they are the most special and intelligent race in the world.
jonathan19912076 Having seen all 148 episodes at least 3-5 times, i can say that the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air is my favorite comedy TV show of all time. It is rare to find a TV show that has the perfect blend of comedy, character development, and family values but Bel-Air pulls it off just right. Unlike other TV shows that have two or three seasons that stand out above the rest, Bel-Air is equally fun to watch at season one as it is to watch at season six.I give Bel-Air a 9/10 because it has brought untold amounts of joy and laughs to my life. The only thing that is keeping me from giving Bel-Air a 10/10 SPOILER: is the fact that starting at season four the character Vivian had to be replaced. I did not like the replacement (due to the lack of ability to act) and preferred the previous one.You cannot go wrong with checking out Bel-Air. You will be hooked for years to come.
