Softwing Most undeservingly overhyped movie of all time??
Hayleigh Joseph This is ultimately a movie about the very bad things that can happen when we don't address our unease, when we just try to brush it off, whether that's to fit in or to preserve our self-image.
Hattie I didn’t really have many expectations going into the movie (good or bad), but I actually really enjoyed it. I really liked the characters and the banter between them.
Allissa .Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.
cliffvose Once you have suspended your disbelief that attorneys' offices in the USA are akin to the habitat of middle-class wannabes in New York coffee houses. You know them...pop in for a coffee, leave a package, have your kids fix your computer glitches, carry on illicit affairs behind glass doors and generally take the proverbial out of the average TV viewer then this is a well-written show. Not having been to Chcago I find it hard to believe that career women dress that way in normal life. Those shoulder pads and two-piece suits? No wonder it's known as the home of the Mafia and bathtub hooch. Archie Panjabi should have her own spin-off show. Her character, Kalinda is mesmersing.
JonathanWalford This is a consistently good show full of interesting characters with interesting story arcs and well written courtroom dialogue and situations that make you question what is right and what is wrong -- Does a handsome, well spoken drug dealer deserve legal protection? What about a charming psychopath who probably did kill his wife? However, it is also a show with silly mistakes (incorrect time zones and inconsistent back stories such as how many years earlier had Diane Lockhart founded her firm - 9 years or 13 years?). It's worst problem is the unbelievable passion between the characters Alicia and Will - at no point do the two actors have any chemistry. This leaves a hole in the story arc as the viewer really doesn't care what happens between them and are relieved when that story line finally subsides. What is far more interesting is why the main character can not either reconcile or move on from her husband. Her hot and cold forgiveness makes his affairs understandable... Some of the recurring characters are fascinating, but some are under-developed, like the children. A couple of characters are perhaps overused like Kalinda who dresses like a Star Trek ensign from the 1960s and is an omnisexual sleuth who charmlessly wedges her way into crime scenes and coerces people she has betrayed into repeatedly helping her with tips. I never watched this series when it was originally broadcast on TV (I was too busy with Mad Men, which shares MANY of the same story arcs...) but have now watched the entire series over the past month and while the entire series is excellent, season 5 stands out as the best season.
RHL First of all, I loved this series and have watched all 156 episodes; completely brilliant, until the end!!!Julianna Margulies (Alicia) is magnificent as 'The Good Wife' and holds everything together, simply a stellar performance. There's suspense, intrigue, insights to the darker machinations of American politics and the corruption that emanates from all of this. There are wonderful characters that are woven into the fabric of this drama, Archie Panjabi (Kalinda Sharma) stands out as an example. I came into this epic saga late but was enraptured; there are so many great performances!I've read many reviews regarding Alicia's character and most seem to resonate with negativity as the years roll by. WHAT? Yes, she is a privileged person because she is intelligent and articulate, hence her job, BUT she stands by her flawed husband for years and, for the most part, allows her life to be in a state of limbo; other than holding down a difficult job and caring for her teenage children whilst her philandering husband has his nefarious liaisons! Finally she has found love, following tragedy when love was almost realised, but still has to 'stand by her man' (really?) because she is 'The Good Wife'. 155 episodes of varying excellence is finished off with the 156th being a total let-down; yup, a bit of a slap in the face! Bet the writers thought that Julianna Margulies would be drawn into the spin-off series so it was worth the risk; oh well, they were wrong. Finish a great story properly for goodness sake; it just feels as if the end of this fantastic series was ultimately being used as a vehicle to promote the new spin-off. Very disappointed...but Julianna Margulies was always dazzling.
SnoopyStyle Alicia Florrick (Julianna Margulies) is humiliated by her husband Peter Florrick (Chris Noth)'s sex scandal. He was a state's attorney. He is sent to prison but later he's elected Governor. With teens Grace and Zach to support, Alicia is forced back to work. Her college flame Will Gardner (Josh Charles) gives her an associate job along side younger colleagues like Cary Agos (Matt Czuchry). Diane Lockhart (Christine Baranski) is the senior partner. Kalinda Sharma (Archie Panjabi) is the mercurial investigator. Eli Gold (Alan Cumming) is a political operative working for Peter Florrick. This is as good as it gets for network TV nowadays. The traditional networks are desperate for break even shows and afraid of any risk. It is a steady diet of unimaginative procedurals for drama. The outlook today is grim. This show is simply good. It's fun soapy drama. The characters are engaging. The actors are first rate. The quality never relents. Great characters continue to be added with amazing actors. As far as today's network TV goes, it doesn't get much better than this.
