Synopsis

25 years ago, Mick Dodge walked away from the modern world, leaving civilization behind to live alongside nature's wonders in the Olympic Peninsula. Following a primal instinct present throughout generations of his family, Mick ventured deep into the Hoh Rainforest, making his home in the trees and hidden in the moss. Experience the wild life of Mick Dodge, a quirky character whose unique brand of Zen comes from living by his own code – off the land and off the grid.

Reviews

TrueJoshNight Truly Dreadful Film
Tobias Burrows It's easily one of the freshest, sharpest and most enjoyable films of this year.
Scotty Burke It is interesting even when nothing much happens, which is for most of its 3-hour running time. Read full review
Allissa .Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.
Aeneas21 If you enjoy a romanticized view of what it's like to like in a temperate rainforest with an interspersed, yet connected, underground of mountain dwellers then you'll love The Legend of Mick Dodge. This show makes you want to live in the Hoh and have merry adventures amongst the ancient forest canopy and majestic Hoh river. While this show shouldn't be looked at as a how-to guide for living off the land using primitive skills, it is definitely an entertaining view into a life that symbolizes freedom, adventure, and kinship. In this day and age when we're hyperconnected through digital media and decides, it's refreshing to watch a show that's the antithesis of that.
Jessica Varga There's something magical about The Legend of Mick Dodge. Through Mick's yearly rituals and day-to-day activities with his forest dwelling friends, he reawakens the viewer to the majesty of nature, and the connection that we've lost. He makes you want to run outdoors barefoot, and sleep under the sky, and forage for stone soup. There are plenty of other shows about survivalists. Mick Dodge is not a survivalist - he simply loves nature, and spends much of his time there. This show is about reconnecting with our roots. Mick dwells in civilization just long enough to get certain needs met (like the occasional burger in town) and then he's off to the woods again. This is truly celebrating "the middle way!"
fflutterffly I love this show not because of the viewing value but it's just darn so much fun! #1) When Mick finds the final piece of the puzzle to his family secrets there is a brand new clean un weathered rope hanging from the upper limbs! #2) Google Earth is pervasively a monster in which one can find any and all things on the face of earth. CARLS HOUSE!!! What was the crew thinking by giving us a long shot of the house? I found it with ease. #3) That whole deal about boiling the few crabs and then taking a steam in the same cooled down soup was...well.. a nice bit of TV, but a stupid bit of work. Since we all know the leathers would absorb any smell of the crabs and certainly there was fresh water to boil and.... I'll just stop there. I love this show. We watch it. We love the Hoh and fly fishing there. So guys be a little bit more careful with the POV.
Andrew Scott I didn't have high expectations when this show first came on, but Nat Geo really has set a new low for quality television. They have joined the bandwagon of reality TV, and this is what we get. A fake show that tries to get people to think it is real, and most people assume it is because its run by NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC. Everything is poorly staged, and it looks like they get all of their extras right off of there own camera crew. Reality TV is cheap to produce but I never though Nat Geo would stoop to this level. At least give us some survival advice or anything that would help in the wild! I have learned nothing from the show and if sent out into the Northwest rain forest would likely perish thanks to your content. Please start being honest with your viewers and let them know Mick Dodge isn't what you make him out to be.
