Synopsis

Follow the adventures and misadventures of Penny, a 14-year-old African American girl who's doing her best to navigate through the early years of teen-dom. Penny's every encounter inevitably spirals into bigger than life situations filled with hi-jinks, hilarity and heart. Her quest to balance her home, school and social lives are further complicated by friends like the sassy Dijonay, Penny's nemesis LaCienega Boulevardez, her loving, if not over-protective parents and her hip-to-the-groove-granny, Suga Mama.

Kimberly Mazariegos After reading most of the negative comments, I feel like this world isn't the same. Okay, to start off, YES, it does have stereotypes, and YES, I understand why some parents wouldn't want their children to watch this. But when you think about, kids are already watching things they shouldn't even watch. Now, I know that this show has stopped airing on Disney Channel for quite some time, but you can easily find this show on YouTube. This show does have its morals and what not, but you can actually get a good laugh. This show what targeted for pre-teens and teenagers, and as a young teenager, I find this to be one of my favorite shows. Most of the critics and users here don't have that same "inner child" as they did 30 years ago. I feel like this show did it's job. If you don't like it, then don't watch it.Forgive me if I did not use proper grammar. I am not thinking straight.Have a good day.
the_moody_youngest I hate this show. It's annoying, arrogant, racist, and totally stupid. The only reason why they kept it on so long is because Bruce W. Smith is arrogant and he thought he was doing a good job. It is unrealistic and has irritating characters!Penny is annoying and a total brat. Dijonay is SUPER annoying and is an idiot. Zoey is dumb and has an annoying voice. I can't stand Trudy for every reason. Oscar annoys me. LaCieniga is a spoiled bratty ho that needs to shut the heck up. An everyone else D-U-M-B!Oh and Suga Mama, UGH! This show shouldn't have stayed on this long because it was EXTREMELY STUPID! I give it a 1/10, I hate it and it Bruce W. Smith needs to get a life!
dprokop-1 Usually when someone makes a show the tend to have the audiences that are watching to be the same age as the main characters. In this show the main characters are 14, the show is rated G. Every single episode they end it with good thought about whats right and giving and caring, but no 14 year - old who live in America is like that. The show tries to make you laugh but fails miserably. And if the stopped making episodes then they should stop showing re - runs and take the show off television. Overall it's really bad and the least bit interesting or entertaining, but what could you expect from a family Show? (family meaning the family channel, and all of the family channels shows suck).
misswoo Such a shame so many talented people see fit to contribute to racial stereotypes. Brainy Asians, spoiled Hispanics, and Ghetto-talking, rap-loving African Americans and white kids who wanna-be.Penny Proud would say "check it out, yo!" And if you allow your kids to watch this show in no time they will be imitating the urban jive as well.Is there anything wrong with this? Yes, when it masks as multiculturalism. Unfortunately, Disney is only interested in stereotypes.Wouldn't it be nice to see an African American family who are NOT Ghettoized? Anyone remember The Cosby Show? Apparently Disney does not.
