Really Surprised!

One of the worst movies I've ever seen
Dirtylogy
It's funny, it's tense, it features two great performances from two actors and the director expertly creates a web of odd tension where you actually don't know what is happening for the majority of the run time.

Ok... Let's be honest. It cannot be the best movie but is quite enjoyable. The movie has the potential to develop a great plot for future movies

This is simply artistic television at its best. The city of Baltimore serves as the series main character that is constant throughout all five seasons. The combination of David Simon and HBO were absolutely necessary for this to have worked as well as it did, as well as the impeccably selected cast. The story consists of following the lives and points of view of the participants of drug world in the inner city Baltimore. Sadly, this situation most likely occurs in most if not all the major cities of the United States. While most shows or movies typically present the points of view of the cops, the lawyers and the "criminals". The Wire takes it several steps further utilizing points of view of several levels of the police department, several levels of the local judicial system, the mayor's office, the city council, the state senator's office, the local newspaper, the school system and the shipping docks that are such an important part of the country's system of transporting goods. The beauty of the show is that it is all believable, especially if you studied this sort of thing in school, are in the news business or involved in civics in some sort of fashion. The show is so well written and acted out you often find yourself not knowing who to root for and root against. Sometimes you love the cops, sometimes you hate them. You definitely hate the politicians. A lot of the times you are conflicted as you find yourself rooting for the criminals as what they do seems to be their only mode of survival. I won't go into specifics of any of the stories as I don't want to give anything away. In all honesty, this is just simply top 10 of all time television shows, over the air or cable. Really nothing over the air can rival The Wire except maybe MASH or Hill Street Blues and they are still a far cry. I went out and bought the DVD set and still rewatch this a couple times a year and I STILL notice new things. LOVE it and I promise you will too.

This is the best moving image on ANY SCREEN that I ever saw.
I like it so much, I've been watching the whole series at least once every year.
The last 10 years or so. Everything about The Wire is just so mindblowingly good.
The script, the drama, the dialogue, the direction. The performances!!! Not to mention some of the best TV talent that's been around but also the kids. OMG! the kids!, they deserve awards them. It's just vow! What first looked like series about police & street life, becomes very nuanced odyssey of a marvel seen from an array of perspectives (police, gangs, politicians, the press, education system etc). The way the relations and characters manifest themselves, develop and transform is believable to the point I completely forget I'm not watching reality TV. Lots of it really happened, sinceThis is the TV's Dostoyevsky and The Godfather rolled into one.

Awesome show. give it a season it's gritty,
real and it's from actual notes of an ex balti cop and journalist. this isn't sensationalized hollywood fluff and it has a story where you don't want to stop watching. you'll notice most of the actors went on to do great things and this was their start; it catapulted them but still maintains its credibility. i've seen basically all the big tv series, all of them, from start to finish this is the best. hands down.

The streets of Baltimore as a microcosm of the US's war on drugs, and of US urban decay in general. Seen not only through the eyes of a few policemen and drug gang members but also the people that influence and inhabit their world - politicians, the media, drug addicts and everyday citizens.Brilliant series. Started slowly and without an indication of how good it would become. While not bad, Season 1 wasn't that riveting. So uncompelling was it for me that I didn't watch Season 2 until several years later, and am now glad I did. In Season 2 we see the genius of David Simon and Ed Burns at work, with a script that is thoroughly engaging. It is here that it becomes obvious that this more than just a crime-drama series, it's a human-drama series (and the humans involved happen to largely be policemen and drug dealers). Incredibly gritty and plausible.Seasons 3 and 4 demonstrated that no character is indispensable and nothing is predictable about the series. Every time I figured I could see the way ahead, which characters would carry the series into the next season and/or what the overarching storyline for the remaining series would be, the show took a turn in another direction. Not twists for twists sake, just good, plausible plot development.Throw in superb performances by everyone involved and you have an incredible series.Season 5 was a bit disappointing in that it wasn't quite the powerful ending I was expecting. The fake serial killer angle felt silly and implausible and was overplayed. Remainder is very good, but that took the shine off the final season. Ultimately, however, the series is a classic of TV drama.
